A really great walk in clean, crisp air, sunshine, through woods and meadows 12-1300 m altitude with great views of the mountains. Dappled shade and pools of sunshine in the woods.

I hasten to say that this is not my photograph, it is a shot of the original by Josef Hackhofer - I lack the mountaineering experience to even get there, let alone take such a stunning image.

Meran is situated in an advantageous location, amidst of beautiful mountains that offer you a stunning view when strolling through town. I enjoyed the extraordinary alpine-Mediterranean atmosphere, an interesting mix!

The view from our bedroom window towards the Rosengarten range of the Dolomites. A few minutes later than the first image in this series. A better, clearer day for a walk.

Brewery window. The Germanic influence is strong as is the beer.

Our hotel, the Zirmerhof, has been a hotel for only 100 years but dates back to the 15th C. At 1500m altitude the air is clear and the hotel is just superb.

Hoodoos formed when glacial boulder clay is eroded, when wet it dissolves and slips down the slope, when dry it is like concrete. The cap stones preserve the pillars for many years before they collapse and the line moves up the hill.
