The board paddler and his faithful companion are a common sight at White Rock.
I am always both amazed and impressed by their balance.
They travel together, mastering some of the most challenging waves. The temperature of the seasons never seems to deter their efforts.
The BNSF Railway line passes through White Rock along the beach before turning north around Ocean Park and Crescent Beach.

Mother Nature treated Winnipeg to hoar frost one morning, so out I dashed with my macro lens. I found some milkweed seed pods that were all dressed up in their frosted finery!

what a weekend! my internet modem went on the fritz on saturday afternoon - from one second to the other. a short, i guess… so, i had no internet access anymore. can you imagine how strange this feeling was? ;)
well, later the day i will try to get new hardware to get my internet access back. hopefully it will work again soon.

Eryngiums are a attractive to bees, wasps and other insects and make excellent dried flowers. They are lovely shade of blue, sometimes interpreted as violet by some screens and cameras, definitely need calibration here :)

For this second last theme of the year…peace…I have photographed Otis and Fleur again in a festive setting.
For me, the holiday season is about peace, giving and forgiving, and inner joy. I don't want gifts for Christmas - what I want is world peace. I know that's asking a lot, and I don't expect it to happen, but we can start small. We can smile at others as they walk by - just a smile will often melt a heart and make someone's day. We can accept others as they are, even if they are completely different from us. We can respect others, because each of us expects to be respected. We can be positive, and live each moment to its fullest, as we really don't know if it is our last. And we can love without expecting anything in return. I believe that all these things will bring inner peace, and that's a start. It's not easy, but it's a goal to work towards.
Rumi said, "Out beyond the ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing, there is a field. I'll meet you there.
That's my philosophical post for the year….

The MetOffice have released their three month advance forecast for the UK and it is expected that, in the midst of the cost of living crisis, we are likely to face a colder than average winter. These advance forecasts are getting harder to predict with rapid arctic warming destabilising the high altitude jet streams. People in the UK are already having to choose between heating and eating as they struggle with obscene energy prices while the energy companies rake in excessive profits. It will be a tough winter ahead.

Well at least for a few days. This was the most welcoming sight when I arrived feeling rather tired at my hotel in Luang Prabang,Laos (Sada hotel). I had this most sumptuous bed all to myself. .Of course, I did not know then that I was about to enjoy the most interesting few days in this wonderful town. There are many very colourful Buddhist temples here,with their accompanying monks, I loved it .
A Little Owl rousing........
Birds rouse by raising their feathers away from the body, shaking them out, and rearranging them. Often this behavior is performed during grooming, after a bath, or just when the bird feels content and relaxed. Rousing clears the plumage of any debris or excess water, much like a dog that shakes its fur out.

A church building like this is clearly in the Gothic Revival style consistent with when it was built: 1871. It was designed by colonial architect Henry Hunter (1832-1892). The first Church of England was established at Waterloo Point in 1845, but by 1868 it was in real need of replacement having been built with second-rate materials.
This site at the top of Noyes Street (the highest point in town) was chosen. It is directly opposite Meredith House (1853). The Rev. Joseph Mayson (1808-1881) had established the parish way back in 1839, and he was there to move the community into this new church, finally retiring with ill-health in 1877. monumentaustralia.org.au/themes/people/religion/display/1...

When I saw this it looked like someone had used a paint brush to add the sprays of birch leaves in the perfect places.
