For this week’s Macro Mondays ‘It's Alive’ theme, I have chosen to photograph an old, moss covered wall.
There are over 600 species of moss in the UK, and after a little research, I was able to identify this particular variety as Common Pincushion moss (Dicranoweisia cirrata).
Common Pincushion moss is a small to medium-sized plant, usually forming neat, yellow-green to mid-green cushions to 3 cm tall. The leaves are about 2.5 mm long, narrowly spearhead-shaped and gradually taper to a finely acute tip.
Very simple lighting; it’s all natural.

Take a breath
Let it go
There’s a spark inside
I can feel it
I’m alive I’m alive
I open up
Spread my wings
I was born to fly
I can feel it
Let it rise let it rise
And now the world is calling
Underneath the brightest sky
Anything can happen now
Anything can happen
Oh oh oh oh oh
Anything is possible
Anything can happen
I feel a light inside
I feel alive
I feel alive
With opened hands
Opened eyes
Now I’m wide awake
I can see it
A new dawn
A new day
Anything can be mine
Reach out all the way
I can feel it
A new sun
A new day
And now the world is calling
I believe that I can fly
It was like the world
Had stopped turning
Because when I looked at you
I thought you were alive once more
Perhaps merely sleeping
The carving of the wood
Softened and mellowed by age
Gave you back your humanity
And what we all crave
But looking closer
I could see that I had just missed you
Bizarrely repeating my feelings
Of loss and heartache
That I once had long ago
Of you my dear heart
Who I could never save
And these thousands of years later
With so many lost in their graves
If I gaze at you long enough
I can feel that special silence
The one that follows a vibrant life
Now stilled by the absence
Of the energising spirit
That gave you your life’s purpose
Love in its purest form
To be shared freely
Willingly
Amongst us
This image is from a wooden carved Christ figure on the Crucifix which stands on the altar in the side chapel at Arlington Church, East Sussex, UK. The carved figure is quite small, no more than seven inches or so, on the cross. I am not sure what the wood is that the figure is carved from, perhaps pine, or elm? Or who carved it.
The figure of Christ is carved with such love and pathos, as if He has just passed away…or still asleep with exhaustion, but beginning to drift to another shore.

I seem to have forgotten about when I used to be a touch more creative... adding a little texture occasionally and trying different things... I think I can sense a texture phase coming on! ;) be warned! Hehe :)
Never be afraid of being different; always stay true to yourself, even if it comes at the cost of being withered. As long as your roots are deep in the soil, you are alive — even in silence and dryness. The peace that flows from your authenticity radiates around you, coloring every place you touch.
Staying alive in Sydney amid the oppressive heat.
40 degrees in Dural. I had to rescue my Japanese maples, azaleas and other 'cool climate' plants that detest Sydney's summer.
At least in the late afternoon it proved to be cooler down by the harbour. A trip to Lavender Bay is always worthwhile!!
And, on a bright note, here is Beatrice Florea with her gorgeous cover version of 'Stayin' Alive' by The Bee Gees.

Most definitely alive. After a short exit, I returned to find my three snails had disappeared. I've only found one of them.

Stay alive
---Big Country ("In a Big Country")
"Aliveness is energy. It's the juice, the vitality, and the passion that wakes up our cells every morning. It's what makes us want to dance. It's the energy, something that makes our hearts beat faster, our minds, and our eyes open wider than ever before. Everything is of interest to a person who is truly alive, whether it's a challenge, a loving moment, a bucket of grief, or a glimpse of beauty."
