The MIM-3 Nike Ajax was the world's first operational surface-to-air missile (SAM). Designed to intercept high-altitude aircraft, the vehicle consisted of a solid-propellant booster and a liquid-fueled upper stage. The first Nike Ajax flew at White Sands Proving Ground (now White Sands Missile Range), New Mexico in 1951 and was operational from 1954 to 1963. The more advanced Nike Hercules replaced the Ajax.

If you know my stream a little and you see this photo, you might come the right conclusion: It was dentist time again! :-S

A flower shop next my dentist is selling all kind of beautiful ornaments, as I already tried to show here. To this, already great collection, three football players were now added. Maybe because of the coming World championship Football in South Africa?

These three players couldn’t participate there because they are not wearing the national orange colours, but are clearly recognizable as players from the Amsterdam-based Ajax.

Obviously I'm a huge Ajax fan, so in honor of them making the Champions League i decided to create a custom desktop:

- Yahoo Widescapeweather widget

- Kobhens icon set for the dock

- Back in Black icon set for the folders

- Geektool to create "HUD" for dock + widget

- Translucent dark menubar

- iStat menus to maintain uniform red/white look

Photographed at Chatham Naval Dockyard Museum on the 10 April 2015

"AJAX" was built by Robert Stephenson & Hawthorns Ltd. and delivered new to Chatham Dockyard. In 1972 the Admirality disposed of all its remaining steam locomotives at Chatham except "AJAX".

During Admiralty ownership, the loco carried the Yard No of 361

"AJAX" was kept in working order and used until the closure of the dockyard in 1984. After the dockyard closed, "AJAX" was placed in secure storage until the opening of the Historic Dockyard in 1985

Ajax loves the bed I sleep on when I stay with Anna. He sleeps there during the day sometimes, and always comes to visit me during the night. Sometimes he'll curl up with me and sleep for a little while during the night (although both he and Leo are pretty nocturnal). He's a very cuddly and affectionate cat, which is pretty cute.

"Ajax and Cassandra" by Solomon Joseph Solomon, 1886 licensing

location: Ballarat Fine Art Gallery, Ballarat, Victoria, Australia

il mito di Cassandra

Cassandra, a daughter of the Trojan king Priamo, had spurned the advances of Apollo, who punished her by ordaining that although she should always make true prophecies they would not be believed. The Trojans rejected her warnings that Troy was in imminent danger and when the Greeks sacked the city Cassandra fled to the Temple of Athena. It was from here that Cassandra was dragged by Ajax, and it was for this crime that he was later killed by Athena and the sea god Poseidon. more
