This installation deliberately engulfs us: its high-contrast graphics seem to move before our eyes, producing a dizzying field of colours. Steering away from their classic palette of red, blue and green, General Idea experimented with alternate colour combinations in these three paintings. The canvasses are installed over the group’s AIDS Wallpaper – a work whose repetitive pattern references the replication of the HIV virus.
This work marked a pivotal moment in the group’s practice: their engagement with the HIV/AIDS crisis at a time when the illness was a taboo subject and highly stigmatized. The painting appropriates American Pop and artist Robert Indiana’s LOVE motif (1964), substituting L-O-V-E with A-I-D-S. Produced for a fundraiser at Koury Wingate Gallery in New York, it was a the first of many AIDS works to follow.
"We Know that to Err is Human, but the HIV/AIDS Hypothesis is One Hell of a Mistake. I Say this Rather Strongly as a Warning. Duesberg Has Been Saying It for a Long Time. Read this Book"

Lee Este Libro "

When untreated, HIV ( human immunodeficiency virus) can cause AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome), a chronic illness that attacks a person’s immune system. Now manageable for those with access to medication, the disease remains life-threatening to those without - a stark example of how public health intersects with economic and racial inequalities. Today, the majority of infected people are in Africa, while in North America, A disproportionately high number of indigenous, Black and racialized people are infected. More than 36 million people are living with HIV, and more the 35 million people have died of AIDS-related illnesses.
On Dec 1, 2011, more than 500 people in Western Ghana participated in a day of HIV/AIDS awareness raising and education through a procession, speeches and sketches.

The AIDS Memorial in Barbara Hall Park is a tribute to people from our local community who have died of an AIDS-related illness. The Memorial counters the silence, denial, isolation and rejection that are often connected with AIDS. This is a place to grieve those who are gone, to celebrate their lives and courage, and to take pride in our response to AIDS.

.....1 Dicembre, si celebra la 26esima Giornata Mondiale contro l’AIDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Solo in Italia ci sono più di 165.000 persone affette dal virus dell’Hiv. E, a quanto pare, l’informazione scarseggia.

Yet another conceptual try.
Evidently, the red towel explains the symbolic red ribbon of the Aids awareness ribbon. With a dimly lit face, it represents a stranger , what lies within will never show and one should never practice promiscuity.
Be faithful to your spouse, keep yourself safe, keep others likewise. Practice safe sex and prevent the spread of Aids/HIV.
