Acer palmatum 'Kamagata' A unique yellow and pink starburst of color. Slow growing dwarf with a vase shape growth habit. The tree has a very delicate appearance, but in fact it is very rugged. I think of it as the SUV of the Japanese maples - strong, compact, but with a very elegant look. Kamagata stands up to heat and full sun, so it makes a great container tree for the patio. The spring color is light green with red margins. The bark is a nice green color. The texture of this tree is very soft in the landscape because the sickle shaped leaves are densely packed on each branch and softly hang downward. From a distance it almost looks like a soft morning fog moving into a mountain valley.
The acer in our garden has turned a beautiful orange colour, so I had to get out there and photograph it!

A digital illustration done in Procreate this past May while we had Covid. A parody of the Rider-Waite Smith tarot suit of Pentacles. This Ace of Pentacles has a Dutch hex in place of the regular “coin” or pentacle. The hand is also holding a joint.
