Closest town is Owl's Head
Another from last year's project that will be released and hitting the stores at the end of this year. This view is from the stairs down from the Light. Amazing view.
History: "Nobody is quite sure how Owl's Head got its name. Some say the picturesque promontory resembles an owl from the water, but it takes great imagination to see anything of the sort. Some say Owl's Head is the English translation of the Indian name for the spot, Medadacut.
When Owl's Head was visited by Samuel de Champlain in 1605, it was known as Bedabedec Point, an Indian word meaning "Cape of the Winds." The village called Owl's Head became a town in 1921; it had previously been part of South Thomaston.
The growing lime trade in nearby Rockland and Thomaston led to the establishment of a light station at Owl's Head, at the entrance to Rockland Harbor. President John Quincy Adams authorized the building of Owl's Head Light in 1825.
A tall lighthouse was not necessary because of the height of the promontory. The light is exactly 100 feet above sea level. Although many sources claim that the 1825 tower still stands, the present lighthouse replaced the original one in 1852. Restoration work by the American Lighthouse Foundation and the J.B. Leslie Masonry Company in 2010, along with research by J. Candace Clifford, confirmed this fact."

Access to the Stairway to Heaven is illegal from the Kaneohe side, because as I understand it requires hikers to cross private property. It is legal to access the stairway from the far side of the island. The alternate route is less popular - probably because the legal route requires a 10 mile hike. I took the 10 mile hike, and it was exhausting.

Sadly, I have not found out how to access or
put an alternative email address into my flickr account. flickr help, say I have to verify I am the owner of it by sending them a photo of my self which can be compared to the one in my account which I know it doesn't have as it was not asked for when I set it up in around 2009.
I have finally got around to changing my broadband provider, which means that I will not be able to access my flickr stream after Monday. May be when things have calmed down, I will be able to open a new stream.

O Glory! This morning I found that Amanda, on the flickr support team has sorted everything out overnight for me and that I won't be locked out or lose my flickr stream or most importantly, contact with you all.
I am so happy and now have the heart to face the day and to sort out the rest of our computer admin before our new broadband provider plugs us in on Monday
Access to Swithland yard was restricted due to preparations for the repairs to GCR Bridge 348 so we moved back to Rothley and continued our lineside clearance work on the Down side there.
With the Up Section signal in view this shot gives a good idea how high the embankment south of Rothley really is. The felled & trimmed trees in mid-view are evidence of our earlier activities while today's clearance is in the foreground.
Behind the brash in the foreground is the re-inforced portal of Bridge 357 through which the public footpath from Thurcaston to Rothley golf course passes. It's more of a tunnel I suppose
This is an example of one of the grade crossings inside the International Paper plant on my layout. Such crossings are often unprotected. I'll eventually put some rudimentary warning signs all around the plant, but for now, the focus is to get the vegetation and basic details done to my satisfaction.

Launched on 7 May 2013, Proba-V is a miniaturised ESA satellite tasked with a full-scale mission: to map land cover and vegetation growth across the entire planet every two days.
This cloud-free image of Hungary, acquired by Proba-V on 19 July 2015, has a 300 m per pixel resolution and is composed of cloud, shadow, and snow/ice screened observations over a period of 1 day.
Hungary is one of ESA’s 22 member states.
Proba-V imagery at 1km resolution is owned by ESA, Proba-V imagery at 300m resolution is owned by Belspo, the Belgian Science Policy Office.
VITO Remote Sensing processes and distribute Proba-V data to users worldwide on behalf of ESA and Belspo.
This image is part of a set to celebrate the launch of ESA’s new Open Access (OA) policy for images, video and data: 22 freshly processed and thus new images of ESA’s 22 member states have just been released under the OA compliant Creative Commons CC-BY SA 3.0 IGO licence. The set consists of one cloud-free image in 300 m per pixel resolution of each ESA member state, i.e. Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.

This is a look at the road we were on in this part of Presqu'ile Park. Beautiful mature softwood trees lining both sides of the roadway.

This is my first year posting a collage of my MOCs from the past year. It’s also the first full year I’ve had access to my Lego collection since 2011, so I was able to build throughout the whole year. I included a teaser of a space base that I built for my local LUG’s annual display. The MOC will be polished and posted by June 2025. My favorite builds were the Crescent Moon and Enchanted Pueblo. I also liked the owl for how the photo turned out. I’m overall satisfied with my pace of building, which is what I expect to continue into the foreseeable future.
My goal for 2025 is to be more mindful about what I build and imagine the impact and aftermath of the creation before I start building. Because I keep the vast majority of my MOCs intact for the past 20 years, storage is an issue. I need to plan MOCs that I’d be happy to hold on to after they’re finished. My Chinese park was a MOC I built for nostalgia and to demonstrate a concept of moving swan boats, but the overall build ended up being bulky, expensive, and not as impactful. The space base also faces this problem. When large creations are taken apart, there will be bulk elements that promote repetitive use in the future, which is a reason I don’t like to dismantle MOCs. I’m curious to hear what people do with their builds.
Overall I’m happy to be able to build regularly. The past decade taught me how much I miss building, and I’m glad to be back doing what I love.

Everest Basecamp – mount everest, who does not know this mountain. The following is the Everest base camp
At Everest Base Camp, climbers will Often spend 4-8 weeks, acclimatizing to the altitude. During that time, the “Icefall Doctors” will set up ropes and ladders in the notoriously unstable Khumbu Icefall. Seracs, crevasses and shifting blocks of ice of make the icefall one of the most dangerous sections of the route. Many climbers and Sherpas have been killed in this section. To reduce the risk, climbers will usually begin Reviews their ascent well before sunrise when the freezing Temperatures glue ice blocks in place.Camp I
Above the icefall is Camp I at 6.065 m (19,900 ft) Camp 1 is mostly a temporary camp with most climbers just spending one night at this camp.Camp II
Base Camp II, Advanced Base Camp (ABC) is established at 6,400 m (21,300 ft). The Western Cwm is a are relatively flat, Gently rising glacial valley, marked by huge lateral crevasses in the center roomates Prevent direct access to the Upper Reaches of the Cwm. Climbers are forced to cross on the far right near the base of Nuptse to a small passageway known as the “Nuptse corner”. The Western Cwm as the topography of the area geneally cuts off wind from the climbing route. The high altitude and a clear, windless day can the make the Western Cwm unbearably hot for climbers.Camp III
From ABC, climbers ascend the Lhotse face on set of ropes up to Camp III, on small ledges situated at Approximately 7,200 m to 7,400 m. From there, it is another 500 meters to Camp IV on the South Col at 7.920 m (26,000 ft). From Camp III to Camp IV, mountaineers are faced with two additional obstacles: The “Geneva Spur” and the “Yellow Band”. The Geneva Spur is an anvil shaped rib of black rock named by a 1952 Swiss expedition. Fixed ropes help climbers in scrambling over this snow covered rock band. The Yellow Band is a section of sedimentary sandstone. The route from the base of the Lhotse face to the Summit is almost always completely fixed with static line.Camp IV
On the South Col, climbers are very close to 8,000 m and can only spend limited time at those altitudes even with supplemental oxygen. Climbers typically only have a maximum of two or three days they can tolerate at this altitude for making peak bids. Clear weather and low winds are important factors when Deciding on a summit attempt. If weather does not cooperate within Reviews These short few days, climbers are forced to move down, many all the way back down to Base Camp.
From Camp IV, mountaineers Reviews their summit push will start from 8 pm to 2 am with the hope of reaching the summit (still another 1,000 meters above) within 10 to 12 hours. Climbers will first reach “The Balcony” at 8,400 m (27,700 ft), a small platform where they can rest and gaze at peaks to the south and east in the early dawn light. Continuing up the ridge, climbers are then faced with a series of impressive rock steps the which usually forces them to the east into waist deep snow, a large amount of sudden grave hazard. At 8,750 m (28,700 ft), a small table-sized arena of ice and snow marks the South Summit.
From the South Peak, mountaineers go after the knife-edge along the Southeast Ridge the which is known as the “Cornice traverse” where snow griping to irregular rock. This is the most bare part of the climb as a misstep to the left would send one 2,400 m (8,000 ft) down the southwest face while to the immediate right is the 3,050 m (10,000 ft) Kangshung face. At the end of this traverse is an imposing 12 m (40 ft) rock wall called the “Hillary Step” at 8.760 m (28.750 ft).
Tenzing and Hillary were the first mountaineers to rise this step and they did it with prehistoric ice climbing equipment and without fixed ropes. Now, climbers will ascend this step using fixed ropes Previously set up by Sherpas. Once above the step, it is a comparatively easy climb to the top on fairly angled snow slopes – though the exposure on the ridge is extreme especially while traversing very large cornices of snow. After the Hillary Step, climbers must traverse Also a very loose and rocky section that has a very large entanglement of fixed ropes that can be troublesome in bad weather. Climbers will typically spend less than a half-hour on “top of the world” as they Realize the need to descend to Camp IV before darkness sets in, afternoon weather Becomes a serious problem, or supplemental oxygen tanks run out.
That Everest base camp you will visit when you are mountain climbing Everest. if you are big enough guts, you should climb this mountain. but if you are in doubt it is better not try to climb this mountain.
