Mushrooms race each other

to be over with and begin again, which

is the familiarity of the forest floor.

They talk, too,

expose themselves with abandon

like strangers on a bus.

They don't have a lot of time to think

or get acquainted with anyone

and that gets some of them into trouble,

especially the poisonous ones

whose self-centering bursts in chaos.

The innocuous ones, most of them,

absorb fast under pressure.

They understand

how quickly the end comes

and concern themselves with behavior,

philosophy, substance, and wit.

They are pleasantly

self-contained

Smile on Saturday! :-) - FLORA IN MARCH

"That swimming, sloping, elusive something about the dark-bluish tint of the iris which seemed still to retain the shadows it had absorbed of ancient, fabulous forests where there were more birds than tigers and more fruit than thorns, and where, in some dappled depth, man's mind had been born."

Vladimir Nabokov

There is something wonderful about finding the perfect quotation to accompany a favorite image.

I caught half dome gazing at itself in the morning light.

About fusion and dissolution

Ice mainly absorbs the colors red, yellow and green from white sunlight. And less blue light. When light passes through a thick layer of clear ice, mainly blue is transmitted. And when white light falls on a white surface, mainly blue is reflected back. (That's why snow photos with automatic white balance are also a bit blue).

Riverstone, an upscale subdivision near my neighborhood, has been subject to flooding in the past. Three years ago Riverstone funded the construction (reconstruction, actually) of a 4.5-acre wetlands with several educational kiosks about birds and plants, especially how the roots of prairie grasses absorb lots of water, certainly more than concrete! The wetlands have attracted birds, 88 species according to eBird, the 39th hotspot in Fort Bend county. An Ibis in the wetlands is shown in the next photo.

In the old days, drivers were the shock absorbers! Vintage car show in Arcadia, Michigan.

“Life—it really did go on, even after insurmountable grief, debilitating sorrow and a life waiting to begin. As long as we were able to love and be loved in this world, no heart would ever be beyond repair.”

ABSORBED IN NATURE – KATIE STOUT

I stood stock still and held my breath

became a part of the great horse chestnut tree

ethereal light licked at my boots

branches curved like loving arms around me

the sea of meadow grass rose tall and yellowed by the sun

it mellowed me and caused my heart to stop;

skip once; then beat again

the breath was taken from me in that one small tick of calm

the golden rays of sunlight stroked

and soothed my soul like balm

through this heavenly vista I could see a flock of sheep

pastoral scene and everything enveloped me;

lulled me to deep sleep

and in my dreams I thought I saw you

heard you whistling in the valley

I rose; pink-clad feet and arms swept up

I danced Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake ballet

I pirouetted towards the sunset

hoping to catch a glimpse of you

and there you were; a vision before me

smiling now at the pinkness of my ballet shoes

don't come further you shouted to me

I'll come to you, you promised me

yet as you stepped into the shadows

my eyes peered where you used to be

I shook myself awake and left my dream

tear-stained cheeks; bewilderment

if only my dreams could make you real

and keep you close with me always

it's understood by me that you were special

and heaven needed another angel

but I get to see you in my dreams

and in my dreams you live again.

Lagerstroemia is a common planting in South Atlantic States and is becoming an increasingly common shrub in Mid-Atlantic states all the way up through the coastal areas of Massachusetts. Lagerstroemia also thrives in the Mediterranean and Desert climates of Southern California, Arizona and Nevada, and also in Australia as a street plant.

Spanish moss is not parasitic: it is an epiphyte that absorbs nutrients and water through its own leaves from the air and rain falling upon it. And It is not lichen.

a fleeting symmetry between two strangers separated by glass, each absorbed in a private ritual — one reaching for the sky, the other lost in the glow of her screen. between them floats a promise: crafted by hand & heart.

.. the forest floor is soft and absorbs the sounds of the city. Drops of rain are dripping from the branches. The sun warms the light and envelops the fragrances of moss and grass, as well as the rough bark of the tall trees.

Everything reminds me of you, so intensively so ineffably beautiful.

Now me to hear your voice, this easy and familiar, loving sound only for this one moment.

That would be of beauty.

2020-09-06, Day 2

The waters of Dinwoody Creek hasten for lower ground as the cool blue of evening begins to creep into the sky that fills the cirque below Gannett Peak, Fitzpatrick Wilderness, Wind River Range, Wyoming.

At this point in the evening, my hiking parter was far ahead of me, largely because I dawdled amongst the stones and water with my camera, looking for compositions and appreciating the light. At length, I glanced up and saw him on a rise some distance away, beckoning that I should come and see what lay upslope. I thought briefly of the fact that we had a little under three miles between where we stood and our camp, and that neither one of us had thought to bring a headlamp as we raced out of camp toward timberline. However, these thoughts were brief because it was fairly clear that the only thing that really mattered was to osmotically absorb as much of this wondrous place as possible. With the pack back in camp and no weight to shoulder, I felt light and infected with mountain air and water. Giddiness prevailed, and I jogged up the trail to see what was exciting my friend's sensibilities.

Wisely, Step 10 does not emphasize a moral inventory, which becomes too self-absorbed and self-critical, but speaks instead of a “personal inventory.” In other words, just watch yourself objectively, calmly, and compassionately. You will be able to do this from your new viewing platform and perspective as a grounded child of God. “The Spirit will help us in our weakness” (Romans 8:26). From this most positive and dignified position, we can let go of, and even easily admit, our wrongs. We are being held so strongly and so deeply that we can stop holding onto, or defending, ourselves. God forever sees and loves Christ in us; it is only we who doubt our divine identity as children of God.

We now have an implanted position and power whereby we can see ourselves calmly and compassionately, without endless digging, labeling, judging, or the rancor that we usually have toward our own imperfection. Don’t judge, just look can be our motto— and now, with the very eyes of God. That will awaken consciousness, and then things will usually take care of themselves, with even the least bit of honesty and courage. A wonderful Indian Jesuit, Anthony de Mello (1931–1987), used to say, “Awareness, awareness, awareness!”…

… To be fully conscious would be to love everything, on some level and in some way—even our mistakes. To love is to fall into full consciousness, which is contemplative, non-dualistic, and includes everything—even “the last enemy to be destroyed, which is death itself” (1 Corinthians 15:26). That is why we must, absolutely must, love!

Shakedown 1979, cool kids never have the time

On a live wire right up off the street

You and I should meet

June bug skipping like a stone

With the headlights pointed at the dawn

We were sure we'd never see an end to it all

And I don't even care to shake these zipper blues

And we don't know just where our bones will rest

To dust I guess

Forgotten and absorbed into the earth below

Double cross the vacant and the bored

They're not sure just what we have in store

Morphine city slippin' dues, down to see

That we don't even care, as restless as we are

We feel the pull in the land of a thousand guilts

And poured cement, lamented and assured

To the lights and towns below

Faster than the speed of sound

Faster than we thought we'd go, beneath the sound of hope

Justine never knew the rules

Hung down with the freaks and ghouls

No apologies ever need be made

I know you better than you fake it, to see

That we don't even care to shake these zipper blues

And we don't know just where our bones will rest

To dust I guess

Forgotten and absorbed into the earth below

The street heats the urgency of now

As you see there's no one around

Haughmond Abbey, Uffington, Shrewsbury, UK

Haughmond Abbey Coordinates...: 52.7324°N 2.6801°W

Haughmond Abbey was founded in AD 1100, the last year of the reign of King William Rufus and the first year of the reign of King Henry I, by William FitzAlan, as disclosed by many things, and especially in two papal bulls of Pope Alexander III designating him the founder of the aforementioned place.

The Augustinian rule allowed for many different styles of religious life. Haughmond was certainly a community of Canons Regular but only a little is known about the precise interpretation of the rule that prevailed or how well it was followed. Generally, a financially solvent house was likely to have a better religious life, and Haughmond was generally well run. After the mid-14th century there were never more than 13 canons, although the size of the buildings suggests numbers were considerably greater in earlier centuries.

The chronicler Gervase of Canterbury noted that the Augustinians of Haughmond were Canonici Albi, that is, white canons. The so-called white habit was probably simply of undyed wool and may reinforce suggestions that Haughmond was an independent eremitic community before it was absorbed, with all such groups, into the Augustinian order. A local chronicle notes that Haughmond adopted the typical Augustinian black habit in 1234.
