over the border... into Scotland. St Abbs...

Summer Storm in Lisbon

Berwickshire, Scotland

Many thanks for all the lovely comments on my post yesterday.

Another from my day at St Abbs. Not a long exposure in my book but long enough to get some movement in the water.

Only 2.5 seconds with a LEE 0.9 and LEE 0.9 grad. Its a shame the clouds were moving so much.

No copyright on this shot so will see if I can get into Explore..

Think this will work well as a mono with these clouds

St. Abb’s Head Lighthouse is one of the principal lights in Scotland and marks the southern entrance to the Firth of Forth. The lighthouse is now fully automated, with the status of the light being remotely monitored from the head quarters of the Northern Lighthouse Board, in Edinburgh.

The decision to build a lighthouse on St. Abb’s Head was taken in the aftermath of the sinking of the ship, "Martello" in 1857. It was felt, by the Board, that the construction of a lighthouse would greatly help navigation within the entrance to and approaches of the Firth of Forth. A lighthouse sighted on St. Abb’s Head would be visible before and after sight of the Bell Rock and Isle of May lights was lost.

Plans were prepared by the Engineers to the Board, Messrs David and Thomas Stevenson, and construction was commenced. Thus at dusk on Monday the 24th of February 1862, the oil-burning lamp was lit and for the first time the rays of the beacon shone out over the cold darkness of the North Sea

As the sun came up, I was hoping for a golden dawn. Sorry to say, it was not to be. I like the colours in the sky and the sun's reflection in the sea.

Popular hiking trails follow the coast north of the southeast Scottish village of St Abbs.

We popped up to St Abbs lighthouse last night ... with clear skies predicted it was a perfect opportunity to see the Milky way, the gentle aurora display was an added bonus too.

I had to keep the exposure time to 6 seconds to avoid the beam from the lighthouse overexposing the images.

12x portrait images joined in Lightroom into a panorama.

I headed up to St Abbs last night hoping to capture some Perseid Meteors as the weather forecast was clear until around 1am. When I arrived it was crystal clear but I could see a fog bank on the horizon which slowly moved toward me and within half an hour I was completely engulfed in fog. I was a bit disappointed I didn't get to see any meteors but I'm happy with what I came home with after such a long journey. What a difference 30 minutes can make to a shot!

St Abbs Harbour at St Abbs on Scotland's southeast coast is busy in summer with scuba diving, hikers, and fishing boats bringing in the catch.

The rocky southeast coast of Scotland is picturesque around St Abbs village.

Big spring tides at St Abbs made for an interesting afternoon. Clambered down into a bay and eventually found a good comp as loads of rocks and couldn't get too close to the waters edge due to the big swells coming in. Rain started shortly after this but had a great afternoon discovering new areas along the coast that are not easily accessed.

My car has now officially died so wont be taking many photos until I can get a new one.

St Abbs Coastal village in the Scottish Borders.

Another image ive been meaning to have a go at for a while, st abbs ,bathed in weak sunlight just before dusk, taken from the cliff tops on route to the lighthouse, its not for the faint hearted mind, there are vertical drops over 100ft to the rocks below

Beautiful part of the Berwickshire coast, near the tiny village of St Abbs. Great for walking, sitting and looking at the view and enjoying the great outdoors. If youve never been to the area around North berwick, your missing out because it is a stunning part of the country. Areas like this for me are pure bliss.
