Los Angeles Zoo - Los Angeles, California - C.J. (short for Castro Jr.) is a Sumatran tiger who was born at the Sacramento Zoo in Sacramento, California on 3/3/13 to Bahagia (Mom) and Castro (Dad) and moved to the Los Angeles Zoo in October 2014. He is the last offspring of Baha (who died on 2/10/16) and Castro (who died on 10/29/14).

 

He has four older siblings:

 

(1) Kipling, born on 11/24/06, lives at the Dallas Zoo in Dallas, Texas

 

(2) Emerson, born on 11/24/06, lives at Zoo Atlanta in Atlanta, Georgia

 

(3) Taymor (a.k.a. "Larry"), born on 11/24/06, lives at the San Francisco Zoo in San Francisco, California

 

(4) Jingga, born on 3/18/10, lives at the Topeka Zoo in Topeka, Kansas

Valerio the jaguar cub was born at the San Diego Zoo on 3/12/15 to Nindiri and Guapo.

 

He has two older siblings:

 

(1) Tikal, born on 4/26/12, lives at the Sacramento Zoo in Sacramento, California

 

(2) Maderas, born on 4/26/12, lives at the Alexandria Zoo in Alexandria, Louisiana

Exotic Feline Breeding Compound - Rosamond, California - Zeya the Amur Leopard was born at Tanganyika Wildlife Park in Kansas on 5/14/11 to Lischinka (Mom) and Kosma (Dad) and moved to EFBC on 11/7/11. She lived at the San Diego Zoo with her brothers, Primorye and Koshka, from 3/7/12 until she moved back to EFBC on 2/23/13. Koshka moved back to EFBC on 5/17/16. Primorye passed away from cancer on 7/7/15.

San Diego Zoo - San Diego, California - M'Bari was born in the wild in South Africa on or about 11/28/03. He moved from Bester Birds and Animals in Lynnwood Ridge, South Africa to the San Diego Zoo Safari Park on 5/20/04 before moving to his current home at the San Diego Zoo on 6/26/09.

San Diego Zoo Safari Park - Escondido, California - Ruuxa the Cheetah was born at Wildlife Safari in Winston, Oregon on 5/3/14 to Nzuri Moyo (Mom) and Frankie (Dad). After being rejected by his mother, Ruuxa moved to the Safari Park on 5/22/14 where he was hand-raised with his canine best friend, Raina, a Rhodesian Ridgeback. When he was only 4 months old, Ruuxa underwent surgery to correct a growth abnormality in his forelegs which caused a bowing of the limbs.

 

Ruuxa serves as an Animal Ambassador at the Safari Park where he can be seen running in Cheetah Run, walking the park grounds or participating in Animal Ambassador talks.

Santa Barbara Zoo - Santa Barbara, California - Makar the Amur leopard was born at the Denver Zoo in Denver, Colorado on 4/25/12 to Dazma (Mom) and Hari-Kari (Dad). He moved to his current home at the Santa Barbara Zoo on 7/12/13. He has a younger brother, Sochi, who was born at the Denver Zoo on 12/2/13 and now lives at Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo in Bridgeport, Connecticut.

One of a litter of four African lion cubs (Ernest, Evelyn, Marion and Miss Ellen) born to Oshana and Izu at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park in Escondido, California on 6/22/14.

Malaya the Snow Leopard was born at the Akron Zoo in Akron, Ohio on 4/14/14 to Shanti (Mom) and Roscoe (Dad). She moved to the Los Angeles Zoo in May 2015.

 

Her brother/littermate, Makalu, lives at Bramble Park Zoo in Watertown, South Dakota.

 

She has two older brothers who were born on 5/14/12. Raj lives at Binder Park Zoo in Battle Creek, Michigan and Sabu lives at Roger Williams Park Zoo in Providence, Rhode Island.

 

She also has three younger siblings - one sister and two brothers - who were born on 3/5/16.

Santa Barbara Zoo - Santa Barbara, California - Zuri and Fahari are African lionesses who were born at the National Zoo in Washington, D.C. on 8/31/10 to Shera and Luke. They moved to the Santa Barbara Zoo on 10/18/12.

 

The sisters were part of a litter of 4 cubs. Their brother, John, lives at the Cincinnati Zoo in Cincinnati, Ohio where he has fathered a litter of 3 female cubs. Their sister, Lelie, lives at the Buffalo Zoo in Buffalo, New York where she gave birth to one surviving male cub (Tobias) on 3/5/16.

 

Shera's sister, Naba, gave birth to a litter of 3 cubs on 9/22/10. Brothers Aslan and Baruti live at the Calgary Zoo in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Lusaka lives at the Buffalo Zoo in Buffalo, New York with her half-sister, Lelie, and gave birth to 3 cubs (two females and one male) on 5/12/16.

 

Together, the 7 cubs earned the nickname "The Sensational Seven" and have their own Facebook page:

JunJie (J.J.) is a North Chinese Leopard born at the Exotic Feline Breeding Compound in Rosamond, California on 5/10/07 to KimLee (Mom) and the late Kandgi (Dad). He is the nephew of Jama, Kandgi's littermate who lived at the San Diego Zoo at the time of his death.

Santa Barbara Zoo - Santa Barbara, California - The Santa Barbara Zoo is one of a handful of zoos that participates in the California Condor Recovery Program and has helped to save the California Condor from extinction. In 1982, there were only 23 California condors worldwide. Through the work of captive breeding programs, the population has now grown to over 400 condors.

Thumper is a Canadian lynx who has lived at the Exotic Feline Breeding Compound in Rosamond, California since 6/29/08 when he was 7 1/2 weeks old.

California Living Museum - Bakersfield, California

Los Angeles Zoo - Los Angeles, California - Lucha the jaguar was born at the Philadelphia Zoo in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on 6/3/11 to Kanga (Mom) and Jutai (Dad). He moved to the Los Angeles Zoo on 1/14/14 and resides in the Rainforest of the Americas Exhibit.

 

His father, Jutai, was born in the wild in Belize and resides at the Philadelphia Zoo. As of September 2014, he was considered the most genetically valuable male jaguar in the North American Species Survival Plan. Lucha is his only offspring and, as such, is also genetically valuable to the captive jaguar population.

 

His mother, Kanga, passed away on 3/18/14.
