Viewed from the newly opened King Coal Highway Bridge, eastbound NS 820 passes through the interlocking at RD, starting down the mountain, snaking out of Bluefield Yard on their trip towards Roanoke. Even though these bridges over the valley have been built for 15 plus years, the few mile connection from US 460 to the Airport Road was only opened a little over a year ago.

Both the Arctic and Antarctica are amazing places, the closest we're likely to get to seeing life on another planet. I highly recommend it to anyone who has the interest, time, energy and the means to make these trips.

An excellent start to 2023 in finding this now-rare sight, especially as it appears to have been a local-ish car from new.
October 17, 2019. Vojkovice, Czech Republic. An only Vectron locomotive belonging to the private company PSŽ hauling a train with wood passing town Vojkovice.
My first visit to NS’s Altavista District was depressingly late, being wary of its unpredictable & extremely inconsistent nature and anecdotes of weekends wasted shooting nothing. When I finally made the leap of faith, I was rewarded with a memorable introduction.
To kick of my first of what would be 5 trips to the AV, NS 8101 glides through the N&W bracket at Brookneal with export coal for the Port of Norfolk. Positioned at the west end of the signaled portion, the Central of Georgia’s iconic orange ‘wings’ greeted the morning sunlight at Dogwood and the chase was on. I managed to shoot this train at 3 separate locations including the double-bracket at Patrick Henry. I never topped this one in my subsequent visits, but it forever cemented my fondness for the Altavista District

De renovatie van de 800'en begint eindelijk vooruit te gaan. Het is de bedoeling dat de meeste motorstellen AM75 een vernieuwing krijgen. In het renovatieprogramma krijgen ze een metaforfose van rode graffitibak naar strak modern treinstel. Nu ja, vanaf het moment dat ze de CW Mechelen buiten rijden, hebben ze het vaak moeilijk om ook proper te blijven, maar zo smerig als hun rode broertjes zijn ze voorlopig nog niet. Hier had ik geluk om een nieuw exemplaar tegen te komen met derde koplamp. Dit stel rijdt vanuit Binche naar Turnhout.
I had the opportuniy to drive a few 800s back in the late '80s and 1990s, never one of these Turbo models however. Imagine they'd go pretty well, and I always liked the overall feel of the 800.
