I splurged on a new palette for my on-location sketch kit. I like the idea of having more mixing space (vs. my Altoids palette), and just having a good quality palette. Can I justify it as an early birthday present to myself? I found this empty Schmincke palette at Sarnoff's (a local art store here in Tucson) and was able to use a 40% off coupon for it! This made it a price within reason.

I decided to also try a new paint for me: Daniel Smith Transparent Pyrrol Orange (PO71) as my warm red (I usually use Organic Vermillion). I plan to do some mixing tests to run this new paint through its paces.

I may tweak the contents of the palette. I usually use Phthalo Green BS but happened to have a half-pan with Phthalo Green YS already in it, so I will go with that for now. Same with Quinacridone Burnt Scarlet. I like that this palette has a warm and cool of each primary, neutralized versions of yellow, orange, and red, a warm and cool green, three blues, and a violet. I put Payne's Gray in there because I already had it in a half-pan, it can make a nice neutral green for foliage, and it can serve nicely for monochrome studies.

My travel brush is wonderful, the Silver Black Velvet #8 Voyager travel brush. It's cool that there's a place for it between the rows of half pans!

Week 8.....Circle

I spent the day with my son at college. Today was his lacrosse team's season opener. I took a few minutes during half time to shoot this 360 degree pano standing in the center of the quad. I converted the linear pano to polar coordinates in CS5....viola! ( it was a wee bit more difficult than that....) Planet Aurora University.

Oh, and the Spartans beat the visiting Oberlein College 12-3!

I chase your love around a figure 8,

I need you more than I can take,

You promise forever and a day,

And then you take it all away,

And then you take it all away

So this is me and I kinda like this and I'm supposed to be doing my Biology homework right now but meh.

You would never believe that there is an 8-lane highway just a block beyond this, especially since the snow has transformed the landscape.

From last week - I'll have this week up soon! Also important to note is that the white flecks are snow, not dandruff :)

Inspired by the flood of requests for FPP to record tutorials about film making on Super 8 Film, we decided to put a super short Super 8 film into production!

“The Silent Dead”, a 2-minute parody of the popular television series “The Walking Dead” (‘cause Super 8 lacks audio…get it?) begins production September 27th in Dayton, Ohio. It will premiere on the FPP YouTube Channel the week of Halloween.

The Commodore PET 2001-8. The 8 indicates an 8K model. The lowest memory specification was 4K. By itself, this system is simply known as the Commodore PET or Commodore PET 2001.

PET, as is popularly and incorrectly believed, does not stand for anything, not even Personal Electronic Transactor. It was actually named after the pet rock craze of the 1970s.

The Commodore PET was released in 1977, the same year as the Apple II and TRS-80 (Model I). All three were the first true complete commercial personal computers that started the revolution, but only the PET had the built-in monitor and cassette drive.

The PET's keyboard was unusual in that it was designed more like a calculator's keypad than a typewriter's keypad. This was due both to then Commodore President Jack Tramiel's desire to use existing materials in his supply chain, as well as acquiescing to his idea that since a home computer is a new technology, it shouldn't have to adhere to old paradigms. While interesting, the PET's keyboard was obviously not a hit with users and was soon replaced by a more traditional full stroke typewriter style keyboard, but at the expense of the built-in tape drive.

The Commodore PET features a version of Microsoft BASIC, which was licensed for a one time fee and used in all future Commodore products based around the same 6502 processor (Vic-20, C-64, etc.). Bill Gates and Microsoft would not make that same mistake again.

You can read more about the Commodore PET and many other systems in my upcoming book, or keep visiting Armchair Arcade. See you next time!

Typical 8-Point Whitetail Buck - Shenandoah National Park, Virginia

This particular Buck grew a perfect 8-point symmetrical rack each and every year. Note the date this photo was taken (2/20/11) - and still sporting full headgear. But in recent years, December is the month that mostly all Big Meadows Bucks lose their antlers.

One of the 3 Amigos, of which only one remains alive. RIP 8-Pack.

THANKS FOR VIEWING!
