Passing through Avon, NY from some other railfan adventure I stopped and grabbed a pic of LA&L 72 on August 15, 1979. Wish I had taken the time to get some more photo's of it with all the railroad related buildings in town at that time.
I had some errands to run in the morning and took my camera along just in case the LA&L 72 was switching down in town. With my errands done, I went down to the tracks and found the 72 switching the South end of Sweeteners Plus. The 72 had been out of service with burned out traction motors. Apparently the LA&L saw fit to fix it and it is back in service and can be found doing the switching around Lakeville, NY.

The United Launch Alliance NROL-44 DeltaIVHeavy rocket (& many, many stars) trace their paths across the sky in this 40-minute composite of 72 frames, captured Thursday evening from Palm Shores, Florida.
Details:
71 frames at ISO400, f6.3 and 30-secs (stars) and 1 frame at ISO320, f16 and 200-secs (rocket), combined in PhotoShop. Two helicopters from the 920th Rescue Wing, and two airplanes flew overhead, and three people walked by during the sequence, and they were all removed in post-processing. Final edits in Lightroom.
Yeah, I'm pretty darn excited about something my wife just posted about...
And now maybe this picture makes a little more sense to everybody.
I was actually meaning to shoot something else for today but i walked into my bedroom just now and this beautiful ray of light was on the wall i just had to use it
after about 15 frames the light (sun) was gone...

Yes, 9.72s!! I will always remember this guy’s name: Usain Bolt from Jamaica – just like a lightning bolt, 21 years old, the 5th time in a race and he broke the men’s 100m world record… I watched the whole race live at the Icahn Stadium in the Reebok Randall’s Island Grand Prix meet. It was breathtaking… in fact, he got Tyson Gay (9.85s) chasing the whole way, read here.
I and several friends of mine were watching the whole tournament especially to see the world champion and Olympic gold medalist Liu Xiang to compete in the Men’s 110m hurdle. But it turned out that Xiang mildly hurt his hamstring during practice and therefore couldn’t race just to be conservative for the coming Olympics … he came and said sorry to all the fans though :) It was late at night. Just when we were about to leave, someone said oh let’s see the last race - the Men’s 100m. And of course we stayed and were expecting Tyson Gay to put up yet another amazing performance. But now you know what happened… I am glad that I wasn’t trying to shoot photos in the race otherwise I would miss seeing the most amazing 100m race in my life. I was standing in the middle of the home stretch on the audience stand. There were 2 false starts before they finally got a clean one… when the runners passed my location, Usain Bolt was 1.5 yard ahead of Tyson Gay and both seemed to be in the same pace but we then saw Mr. Bolt hit the finish line first. I was just about to talk, one of my friends yelled at us – look at this, 9.71. He broke the world record!!! (they later adjusted it to 9.72 adding the wind speed) Oh yes, I knew that Tyson would not run slow but it was this guy who ran really fast… just amazing! Then he walked the whole lap and came around to the home stretch again... that's when I took this photo. There were thousands of Jamaican fans chanting and he waved to them, may not be realizing how excited everybody was…
Oh btw, it was a nice Saturday evening, loved it! I watched the amazing performances by Veronica Campbell-Brown (my all-time favorite :)) (10.91s) in the Women’s 100m, Wallace Spearmon’s 20.07s in 200m and Xavier Carter’s 44.70s in the Men’s 400m. Really nice races! And, Sanya Richards was signing autographs and taking photos with fans at the end :)

This is a sign for a business in Centerville, Ohio. But I can't tell what business because there is no lettering on the sign. Maybe the business is called "72". It's located at 72 Centerville Station Road.

LA&L 72 has just spotted a tank car in "downtown" Lakeville, NY on December 28, 2020. I was going to chase the Finger Lakes GC2 to Canandaigua, but woke to dark, gloomy, skies. Not worth the drive to shoot black engines I thought. I rounded up some slide boxes and starting scanning slides while listening to the radio feed. At 12:45pm I heard GW1 get track authority from Brooks to Mt. Morris. Might as well go out and catch that since it is close to home. I got to Retsof just ahead of the train and chased it down to Mt. Morris. On my way back home I saw the LA&L 72 cross the road while I was waiting at the light just down the street. Might as well pull in and grab a quick shot or two. Probably scan some more slides tomorrow with all this dark December gloom we have, with not much chance of any snow in the immediate area.
