A superb shot of one of the last 'Castles' to be built.
GWR Collett designed 4-6-0 No 7033 'Hartlebury Castle' was built at Swindon in 1950. Based at 81A Old Oak Common for all of its working life, it was withdrawn in October 1963 and finally cut up by Cashmores in 1964. A working life of just 13 years.
Scanned and tidied up a little from a Kodachrome slide taken by Mr. D England around 1960. The location is either Swindon or Old Oak Common.
After diverging off the NS Chicago Line at CP 502, CP 7033 now runs compass south on the IHB main at Grasselli, the crossing of a Harbor Belt industrial branch.
East Chicago, IN.
