For some time, I've been intrigued by the idea (and the sound) of the Fender Bass VI: the company's 6-string electric bass guitar, used by artists as diverse as The Beatles (it's on numerous tracks on the White Album), Glen Campbell (the solo on "Wichita Lineman", amongst many of his songs) and The Cure. There aren't many "budget" equivalents of the Bass VI, but Harley Benton makes a very affordable version, the GuitarBass VS. I got one with some birthday cash and the proceeds of selling my old Squier Precision bass (which I had rarely played for a while); the GuitarBass VS can act as a "conventional" bass, a low-tuned solo instrument, or even a lower-pitched guitar for unusual chord/arpeggio parts. I love this one...
