Designed by Adrian van Hooydonk , the second generation of the BMW 6 Series consists of the BMW E63 (coupe version) and BMW E64 (convertible version) grand tourers, launched at the 2003 Frankfurt Auto Show as a Coupe with the Cabriolet debuting at the 2004 Detroit Motor Show with a number of engines ranging from a 3 litre straight-6 to 5 litre in the M6 model.

The exterior was designed by Adrian van Hooydonk, based on the 1999 BMW Z9 concept car designed by the then BMW Design Chief Chris Bangle, the E63 uses a shortened version of the E60 5 Series chassis and subsequently shares many features

In the autumn of 2007 BMW debuted a facelift BMW 6-Series Coupe and Convertible. They feature new LED turn signals in the headlights, slightly restyled rear tail lamps with an LED turn signal, and a redesigned third LED brakelight that has been enlarged and moved to the top of the trunk lid.

This car was offered for sale at the H and H Buxton Pavilion Gardens sale of 10th April 2019, selling for £ 6,750

Northern Ireland is a country that's pretty rare for me to spot, a lot rarer than I realize. I was happy about this Northern Irish 6series, a formerly upscale car is something cool to see. A plus is the fact that it's not from Belfast either.

Alpina’s first full conversion on BMW’s 6-Series platform, the B7 Turbo was introduced in December 1978. It had the same engine as the 5-Series–based B7 Turbo saloon and was based on BMW’s 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder engine, but rebuilt with lower-compression Mahle pistons and a new fuel-injection system. A variable boost control for the turbocharger meant that output could be modulated between 250 and 300 bhp.

Finished in Arktisblau metallic with contrasting gold Alpina graphics and a beige leather interior, this B7 boasts perhaps the quintessential BMW Alpina colour combination, subtle yet sophisticated. Previous registrations on file show that the car previously resided in Germany and then Austria before being purchased by its current owner two years ago.

One of 183 examples produced, the E24-generation Alpina B7 Turbo showcases what Alpina does best: take BMW’s finest products and make them better, yet in a subtle way that only makes them noticeable to true enthusiasts. This B7 Turbo would be an excellent driver for the individual looking for something different, something special, and something fun.

The E24 BMW 6 Series coupé was produced/sold by German automaker BMW (Bayerische Motoren Werke) from 1976 to 1988 (1989 in the US) model years. After a 16-year hiatus, the 6-Series reappeared with the 2004 E63 6 Series.

Model history

The E24 was a replacement for the CS and CSL coupés first produced in 1965. The 3.0 CS was almost changed by adding a few centimeters in height to make it easier for customers to get into the car. However, Bob Lutz rebelled against the decision and rough drafted an alternative version that soon became the 6 series. Production started in March 1976 with two models: the 630 CS and 633 CSi. Originally the bodies were manufactured by Karmann, but production was later taken in-house to BMW.

In July 1978 a more powerful variant, the 635 CSi, was introduced (for the time being not available in North America and Japan) that featured as standard a special close-ratio 5-speed gearbox and a single piece black rear spoiler. The bigger bore and shorter stroke facilitated max 218 hp at 5200rpm and a better torque curve. For the first year, the 635 CSi was offered in three colors (Polaris, Henna Red, Graphite), and could also be spotted by the front air dam that did not have attached fog lights. These simple cosmetic changes reportedly worked to reduce uplift on the car at high speeds by almost 15% over the non-spoiler body shape. This early model shared suspension components with the inaugural BMW 5-series, the E12.

In 1979 the carburetted 630 CS was replaced with the 628 CSi; this car had a fuel injected 2.8L engine taken from the BMW 528i.

In 1980 the 635 CSi gained the central locking system that is also controlled from the trunk. Also, the E24 body style converted from L-jetronic injection to a Bosch Motronic DME.

In 1982 (Europe) and 1983 (US), the E24 changed slightly in appearance, with an improved interior and slightly modified exterior. At the same time, the 635 CSi received a new engine, a slightly smaller-bored and longer-stroked 3430 cc six to replace the former 3453 cc engine and became available with a wide-ratio 5-speed manual or an automatic.

1984–86 BMW 635 CSi

This slight change in 1982 (Europe) was in fact a major change as pre-1982 cars were based on the E12 5-series chassis; after mid-1982, e24s shared the improved E28 5-series chassis. The only parts that remained the same were some of the exterior body panels. This fact can be verified by studying the parts lists.

E24s produced after June 1987 came with new, ellipsoid headlamps which projects beam more directly onto road surface (newly introduced E32 7-series also sporting them). The sleeker European bumpers were also discontinued. Previous cars had either a European-standard bumper or a larger, reinforced bumper to meet the US standard requiring bumpers to withstand impact at 5 mph (8 km/h) without damage to safety-related components. 1989 was the last year for the E24 with production stopping in April. The E24 was supplanted by the considerably heavier, more complex, and more exclusive 8 Series (E31).

M version

BMW Motorsport introduced the M 635 CSi in Europe at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1983. It is essentially an E24 powered by the powerplant of the BMW M1 - the M88 (286 PS (210 kW; 282 hp)). Most of the cars were equipped with special metric 415 mm diameter wheels requiring Michelin TRX tires. A catalyzed, lower compression ratio version of the car with the S38 engine (260 PS (190 kW; 260 hp)) was introduced in the U.S. in 1987. All M6 cars came standard with a 25% rear limited slip differential. U.S. models included additional comforts that were usually optional on models sold in Europe such as Nappa leather power seats and a dedicated rear A/C unit with a center beverage chiller. Car and Driver tested a U.S. M6 in July 1987 and achieved a 0-60 time of 6.1 seconds, better than the BMW published 6.4 and 6.8 second times for the European and U.S. versions respectively. 4,088 M 635 CSi cars were built between 1983 and 1988 with 1,767 U.S. M6 built.

Pop stars at the height of global stardom, travelling in private jets and staying in the finest hotels, crave escape and anonymity. ABBA was no different. A discrete sports coupé was needed, so Polar Music, the band’s record company, ordered a silver BMW 633. Fast and reliable, the car followed the band on European tours to be on standby for use by Björn Ulvaeus or Benny Andersson.

When ordered in 1977, the band was at the height of its fame. Their latest album had so many pre-orders that pressing plants could not meet demand, and their shows at London’s Royal Albert Hall received 3.5 million ticket requests. ABBA’s car was ordered in Polaris Silver (060) over black leather with a four-speed manual gearbox.

After a period abroad, the car returned to Sweden in 2008 where it was registered for sparing road use. The bodywork and interior are unmarked, and the car even retains its rare TRX alloy wheels. Accompanied with the car are the original documents signed by Ulvaeus and Andersson.

Whether a marque enthusiast or collector of ABBA heritage, the CSi offered here represents a unique opportunity to acquire a special piece of automotive heritage.

'A highly significant car in BMW's history, the M635CSi was the first to carry the famous "Motorsport" badge that has become synonymous with superlative performance and engineering.' – Supercar World.

Stylish, fast, and well engineered, the 635CSi enjoyed a production run lasting into the 1990s, being periodically up-dated in line with its sister models. BMW's 600-Series coupé debuted in 1976 and was mechanically similar to the 700-Series saloons, although introduced before them. Karmann styled like the preceding 3.0 CS/CSi, the newcomer was similarly well-specified, featuring all-independent suspension, four-wheel disc brakes, and power-assisted steering as standard. Brainchild of BMW's Motorsport department, the M635CSi version arrived in 1984. Its engine was a development of the M1 supercar's 3.5-litre, 24-valve, six-cylinder unit producing 286bhp, the increased power necessitating chassis improvements which included altered weight distribution, revised suspension, bigger brakes, and a limited-slip differential. There was also a close-ratio five-speed gearbox (or four-speed multi-mode auto) and a more luxurious interior, while outwardly this ultimate 6-Series model was readily distinguishable by virtue of its 'M Technic' body kit. Performance was emphatically in the supercar league, the M635CSi being capable of reaching 100km/h in around 6 seconds on its way to a top speed in excess of 250km/h. Really well preserved and original specimens such as this example are now very rare and keenly sought after by collectors.

The car offered here was delivered new to Belgium and has had only one registered owner from new. Still retaining its original Belgian license plate, 'M-974-T', it has covered only 51,000 kilometres and comes with full history. A true collectors' item, this example is one of only 3,283 non-catalyst EU-specification cars built.

The BMW was delivered on 24th July 1987 by Garage BMW Meersman in Sint-Niklaas to its first and only owner, Mr Antoin Geleyn, a well-known cheese and dairy merchant from Beveren. A young man and a great BMW enthusiast, Mr Geleyn cherished the car with much love until his death at the age of 66 in November 2017. His enthusiasm is evidenced by the original invoice, which lists almost all the available options. In addition to the full sports interior in buffalo leather, we find the following: tinted windows; sunroof; alarm; Becker Mexico audio with electric antenna; electric seats (x4); and the complete M Technic spoiler package. The invoice total amounted to 2,493,631 Belgian Francs (after deduction of a considerable discount) or €61,815 today, making the BMW a very expensive car at the time.

Mr Geleyn used his BMW only sporadically during his 30 years of ownership. In the maintenance book 14 services are recorded over the course of barely 51,000 kilometres driven. All services were carried out at the same BMW dealer in Sint-Niklaas that has supplied the car new in 1987. In addition, the car is accompanied by a thick history folder containing original invoices; original registration certificate; old insurance documents; all original keys, etc. Remarkably, the car still retains Mr Geleyn's personal audio cassettes, their music so redolent of the 1980s.

The car is un-restored and in original condition, apart from the front bonnet and right-hand side front wing, which have been repainted, and shows only slight traces of use, which gives it a uniquely beautiful patina. Recently fully checked, it is in full working order and drives like a new car. All accessories and optional equipment work flawlessly.

The car comes complete with all books and tools in their case; its original Belgian registration document in name of Mr Geleyn; sundry bills; and a copy of the original sales invoice. A unique, virtually 100% original, Belgian delivered example - in 'time warp' condition - this beautiful BMW M635CSi is ready to use and would grace any important private collection.

This E24-generation BMW M6 is perhaps one of the lowest-mileage examples left in private hands. It was originally supplied by Foreign Cars of Hunterdon, New Jersey, in July of 1987, and is therefore a U.S.-specification car, featuring the 3.5-litre ‘S38B35’ straight six-cylinder engine, capable of producing 255 bhp at 6,500 rpm, mated to a Getrag 280 five-speed transmission.

Clearly only used on special occasions or events, it covered barely 11,000 miles under its first two owners in New Jersey and New York before being exported to Switzerland by its current owner in late 2015, where it has remained well preserved and rarely driven. It is accompanied by its full suite of original owner’s manuals, which attest to its diligent upkeep as well as a thorough service in 2014 that included a full fluid change, clutch master and slave cylinder replacement, and an overhaul of the air-conditioning system. It has covered less than 600 miles since and presents very well in its classic colour scheme of Royal Blue paintwork over Natural leather interior.

Unlikely to be repeated at this mileage and already a modern classic, this E24 M6 is ready to be enjoyed to the full by its next owner.
