For the first time since the 1930s, the legendary 'Silver Arrows' were united on track in dramatic parades with their rivals.
The Silver Arrows demonstration evokes the noise and fury of the years leading up to the Second World War, with a stunning collection of Auto Union and Mercedes Benz racers. As well as the all-conquering Germans, those who competed against them were also honoured.
A pair of Alfa Romeos take to the track, including a Tipo 158 'Alfetta' - the model whose thunder was stolen by the Mercedes Benz W165, built in secret to comply with the 1.5-litre Voiturette formula. Neither ERA nor Maserati could stem the silver tide, and likewise Bugatti's last hurrah, the Type 59/50B, though wondrous to behold, also failed to challenge the exquisitely engineered German machines.

The 3,600hp MK50-3 has immediately obvious differences to the former Hammersley Iron SD50S despite many common components, such as the solebar height, wide versus standard cab and differing truck assemblies. The only other SD50S models in the US were six units delivered to Norfolk & Western in 1980, which were almost identical to some KCS SD40X prototypes, and have since been rebuilt as SD40Es at Juniata by Norfolk Southern in 2008.
