Even a 57 Chevy looks great after some well applied flames.

General Motors powered Direct Rail Services 'bodysnatcher' Class 57 diesel locomotive, 57303 tails 57011 at Generals Lane Boreham on the Great Eastern Main Line at speed southbound with a 2014 autumn season weekday 04:54 396L 3S60 Stowmarket DGL- Stowmarket DGL (Down Goods Loop) via Norwich Trowse, Shenfield, Southend Victoria, Shenfield, Colchester, Clacton on Sea and Ipswich RHTT (Rail Head Treatment Train) sandite spraying duties.

RHTT trains spray water and sandite jets at up to 20,000 psi for the cleaning and removal of autumnal fallen leaves from the rail head.

The recessed contraption at the front (or rear) of the locomotive is called a 'dellner coupling' and it looks like Direct Rail Services have wisely decided to protect it from the sandite spray with a protective cover.

57303 entered service as Brush type 4 D1957 on January 14th 1967.

Have mercy on me, God, have mercy, for in you I have placed my trust. Even in the shadow of your wings will I find my refuge until this calamity passes.

Sometime last fall, I can't remember exactly when, I was out driving around looking for the remnants of an old grist mill that I had heard about in order to get some shots of it. And when I say "driving around" that is precisely what I mean because I found myself driving in circles completely and utterly lost. So as I was becoming ever more upset and frustrated and heard myself muttering a few choice words (yes, I do talk to myself sometimes although I generally don't answer) about my lousy sense of direction, I turned the corner onto an unexplored road and instantly realized the "roadside gods" had other plans for me that day other than finding that old mill. Yup, to make a long and boring story less long and boring, I never did find the allusive mill that day, in fact I still haven't found the darn thing, but I did find these 57 (at least that is how many I think are there nailed to the rail fence) varieties of vintage roadside wonders. Yup, apparently the "roadside gods" were smiling upon me that day.

(Please note: This was my first attempt at stitching together a panorama using Pixelmator software with shots taken with a new camera; I realize it's not the best. I had the camera on "autopilot" and a few of the frames I shot were out of focus and the exposure was off for some reason but I figured in this case the value of the subject matter outweighed my technical ineptitude and the result is the image you see here.)

Old shoes vs. new shoes. I bought 2 pairs of the same shoe around the same time. Looks like I may have to retire the old ones :)

This is Zoe and I met her at camp and she is the cutest girl I have ever met. She has the prettiest blue eyes I have ever seen and she is so sweet. I miss her so much!

A 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air at the summer classic car show in downtown Mount Pleasant.

Zena was out taking photographs with Zoe (56/100) and was really interested in the project. She took my card was real happy to be shot for the project.

Zena is a stunning model - I think she looks amazing and I was really pleased she was so friendly.

Zena was also out with a Nikon camera (not sure which one) and at first I thought they were part of a photography group (which they weren't). Zena is a chines student from Hefei in China and is studying in Leicester (great city to be in).

Thanks for being so friendly and I hope you like your portrait - I've included a more traditional shot in the comments for you.

This is shot 57 in my 100 Strangers Project.

I wasn't perfectly keen on the ones I did the day before and I thought I had worked out in my head how to position 3 lenses so that I could take a photo through the viewfinder of an slr, looking at a 50mm lens, which is looking at another 50mm lens which has me correctly oriented in the middle.

I managed to get it right, but it was all faintly ridiculous and so I stopped. I have loads of rather nice photos of lenses now, but they mostly don't have me in them. So here's one that does. I still like the viewfinder effect. This is looking though the Nikon EM, which has that nice circle thing going on.
