La vita è forse qualcosa di così sfuggente, rapido. Regala e porta via le nostre anime, un po' come vuole, un po' come crede. Forse qualcuno merita di ottenerlo, il riposo. Anime stanche, martoriate dalla sofferenza, che vorrebbero solo riposare finalmente.
Peccato che capiti di andar via a chi non lo merita affatto, a chi ha una vita davanti. A chi era all'inizio della vita, e poi ci ha lasciati.
E allora chi sente la mancanza di qualcuno viene qui, e porta una luce. Porta un fiore, porta un pensiero. Un minuto anche basta, lì davanti. Ero qui, malinconica. Pensavo al fatto che oggi, in un'altra vita, potevo non essere l'unica. Pensavo che avrei potuto avere qualcuna di più grande, vicino a me. Ma non conta un'altra vita, conta questa. La vita che qualcuno ha deciso di donarmi. La vita con questa famiglia, questa faccia, questo corpo, questo cervello. E allora penso che un motivo c'è, per cui sei andata via. Penso però, che a volte mi capita, di sentire la mancanza di qualcuno che non ho mai conosciuto. Come se potesse esserci il dubbio che se fosse andata diversamente ora sarei più forte e che avrei qualcuno su cui appoggiarmi e su cui mi sarei potuta appoggiare tante e tante volte.
Ma poi, mentre pensavo tutto questo, mi sono girata intorno. E ho visto queste luci, e ho visto i fiori. Ho visto una miriade di persone passeggiare e sorridere. E salutarsi, e parlare. E mi sono sentita felice, in fondo. E ho capito, come ogni anno, che questo è un luogo sereno. Malgrado ci vengano tante persone con tante storie diverse. E' un luogo dove si viene per parlare, per riflettere, per rilassarsi, e per trovare pace. E io, quando vengo, quella pace la sento sempre. Dunque forse non sono poi così sola. Forse non ti ho mai conosciuta, Silvia. Ma è come se tu fossi riuscita, non so come, a conoscere me e ad essere dentro di me, ogni giorno. Come se mi fossi stata vicina ogni volta che ho pianto e mi sono sentita sola, trovando poi la forza di rialzarmi.
La memoria è questa in fondo, trovare la forza in tutto quello che una persona che se n'è andata ci ha lasciato.

Yangon is the most exotic of all Southeast Asian cities. A walk down a typical street, the sights show noticeable commercial and traffic signs written mostly in local alphabet, not to mention the appearance of wandering monks in burgundy robes and the gilded pagodas as this is expected in this Buddhist country.
