Found this old Treeumph 500cc Log burner kindling away in a garden over in Ardentinny, Argyll and Bute, was tempted to fire it up, but my chain saw broke. haha
Macro Mondays theme 'Keepsake'. At the beginning 1980s I rode everywhere on my 500cc Honda and carried my Olympus Trip 35 with me. Not the most stunning images given that I went on to things like a Bronica SQA, but it reliably produced a record of my travels. Eventually film seemed to be dead, along with much maligned bikes like my Honda CX500... both that model of bike and Olympus Trip 35s now fetch good money. I acquired 2 of the little Trips and I am keeping one as a reminder of what always seems to me like a better time... all I need now is a tidy example of one of Honda's more quirky yet successful machines.

MotoGP legend Valentino Rossi just announced his retirement after this season. It was him who made me watch this series.
This is Rossi's 2001 Honda NSR500 World Championship winning machine (final season of the 500cc) from my 2019 visit to the Honda Collection Hall in Twin Ring Motegi, Japan.
This is no replica. This is the machine.
Here is Shelley Pike looking like she is really enjoying riding that lovely 500cc BSA. Qualifying for Classic Senior. This year's Manx Grand Prix is being seriously disrupted by particularly bad weather.

This is a model of a 1960’s 500cc Norton Manx racing motorcycle and reminds me of the days when my brother used to race one. Very nostalgic. 😊
Thanks to everyone who took the time to view, comment, and fave my photo. It’s really appreciated. 😊

This 1954 BSA A7 Shooting Star, a 500cc twin-cylinder motorcycle, blends classic British engineering with a sporty edge. Known for its smooth ride and reliable performance, the Shooting Star was a popular choice for riders seeking a bit more style and power in the post-war era. This works 500cc Velocette racer is one of only two built by the factory to contest three seasons of Grand Prix racing between the years 1937-1939.
The machines were manufactured specifically for Velocette works riders Ted Mellors and Stanley Woods and achieved notable success during those three seasons in the hands of both men.
The engine in this Ted Mellors machine (number 500 5/7) was removed from this particular (Mellors) chassis and used in Stanley Woods machine, probably because it was the better engine.
Interestingly, after World War Two, this engine was converted to DOHC and was used by Ernie Lyons who came 3rd in the 1949 Senior TT.
Luckily, frame and engine were eventually reunited and the motor returned to its original single OHC specification.
This rare machine is on display at the National Motorcycle Museum, near Birmingham Airport, on 10th January 2025.

A BSA M22 Sports 500cc OHV stands ready behind army tents at the airshow, recalling its role during the Second World War. These motorcycles were widely used by the British Army for dispatch riding, reconnaissance, and rapid communication between units. Reliable and versatile, BSA bikes were essential for keeping operations moving across airfields and battlefields, offering a glimpse into the practical vehicles that supported wartime efforts.

Bikes on film: Ian Armstrong on a lovely old 500cc Velocette. The marque was renown for a degree of sophistication, all sorts of suspension adjustment and being pretty quick. The image was taken with a Canon EOS 5, on Kodak Ultramax 400.
My brother driving home on his modern vintage bike!
Next time I want to get the wheels in too, but I like the motion in this picture!
