Mildenhall, 19 July 1987.
A heavily cropped and sharpened photo of F-4C 64-0707 of the Michigan Air National Guard (171th FIS).
In July 1986 the Phantom was flown from the US to Mildenhall to serve as a training object. In 1987 64-0707 was still unharmed. In the years that followed the F-4 (a Vietnam veteran) was put on static during the annual airshows. So I think no-one at Mildenhall dared to hurt this piece of history.
The F-4 was finally scrapped at neighbouring RAF Lakenheath in 1996.
Notice the other training objects: a former French Super Mystere and a T-33.
March AFB, 20 January 1987.
F-4C 64-0827 of 196th Tactical Fighter Squadron on the ramp. Only after scanning the slide I noticed that the seats are missing. The squadron had already started switching to F-4Es.
