755411 failed at Ely whilst working the 2L77 1350 Peterborough to Ipswich, 47812 was called in to assist the ‘Basil’ and drag it back to Norwich Crown Point Depot. However just minutes after 47812 arrived, 755411 decided to spark back into life – therefore not requiring thunderbird assistance. After around 30 minutes sitting ready to couple up, the 47 was sent ‘0Z99’ back home to Manningtree Down Sidings. 755411 moved back to Norwich CP via Stowmarket under its own power, 5L77 1715 Ely to Norwich CP.

47812 departs Norwich for Doncaster after working in with a railtour from Harwich.

Wasn't sure if this was here or not so I didn't take my camera, It was just taken on my phone. It wasnt in a particularly good position for photography but its still an interesting subject anyway.

Unfortunately the ronnie was upfront and running 22 minutes late which was touch n go with the sun staying up and narrowly avoiding a rogue cloud, it all came together in the end to produce a nice shot here. 57314 is seen on the approach to Penrith with the 1Z46 Chester-Edinburgh northern belle. 47812 was on the rear, although would've looked splendid on the front.

I've replaced a bit of the foreground as the shadow was getting rather intrusive by the time it passed.

A report of trespass between Weaver Junction and Hartford brought the WCML to a halt for two hours (yes two hours!) this afternoon. With Freights, Test Trains and this Northern Belle ecs stacked up it was worth a visit to Winwick when it cleared.

47812 leads 5Q72 14.11 Derby Litchurch Lane - Wembley Yard past Harrowden Jn. (north of Wellingborough). This was the first leg of returning Southeastern "Electrostar" EMU 387910 to Ramsgate EMU Depot after its refurbishment. 37800 is "dead in train", between the 47 and the EMU.

The first of these workings, returning an "Electrostar" to Ramsgate after refurbishment, ran in May 2015, and for most of the time ran south on Saturday mornings (the later ones in an earlier path from Derby); the loco then collected the next unit to be refurbished from Ramsgate late in the afternoon and took it to Derby. However, for a period the refurbished units left Derby on Friday afternoons, running as far as Wembley and then continuing to Ramsgate the following morning - and this is one of those. I can't remember why they had changed to Friday afternoon / evening, but it might have been due to line closures as a result of planned weekend engineering work.

Although I had plans to get some shots of the Friday afternoon / evening workings on the Marston Vale Line (between Bedford and Bletchley), given their timing was perfect for an evening of photography after work, I never did - presumably as sunny Friday evenings during this summer were in short supply, at least on Friday evenings when I was free and the train was running. So I think this is the only shot I've got of the Friday working, and, looking at other people's photos of this train, it appears we were lucky in getting it in any sort of sun! And after this, I went to Kangaroo Spinney for Colas 60096 on 6E38 (discharged aviation fuel tanks from Colnbrook), but failed to get it in sun and in the photo I took there appear to be no visible breaks in the cloud.

I don't know why 37800 was in the train, but assume either it or (more likely) 47812 was needed at Wembley for something else, and it was a convenient way of moving a loco.

I also don't know why I hadn't uploaded this image before now - although it was taken before I started uploading photos to Flickr, and the sun is starting to go off the front of the 47.
