We got back on the highway and headed towards Harrison, hoping for a couple shots along the way. One of the shots we wanted was from the overpass at Sappington. He goes pretty fast until the split at Sappington from what we were told.
So, when we rounded the corner outside of town and saw him also approaching, the rental got a bit of a workout to beat it there. We did though, only a few seconds before he came past, but that's all we needed.
Once he was passed, we jumped back in and got back on the road. We were able to get it once more at a spot where I learned how easy the new drone is to setup and where Sam learned what a rattlesnake sounds like while trying to pee. Good times.
Funny enough, when we were talking to the conductor previously, he mentioned that he was from Edgemont, South Dakota. Get this--the brakemen was from Lincoln.
Aren't you a little far from home?

Chicago & North Western Railway 401 in Chicago, Illinois on May 19, 1966, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. I marked the slide as 401, unfortunately, the car configuration does not match the C&NW 401 as it appeared in the 1980's. It's possible the car was rebuilt between 1966 and 1980, or perhaps the 401 was replaced with a second car numbered 401. I'm still researching. Here's what I found so far, on donrossgroup.net
C&NW 401 "Wyoming" was built by Pullman in November 1925, Lot 4923, as Pullman Co. "Monte Viso". It was rebuilt as "Capitol Road" and sold as C&NW 400, business car, in 1948 and rebuilt as 401 "Wyoming". It was sold to a private ownership and renamed "Carolyn". It was resold to Ozark Mountain Railcar and apparently resold.

It had been on my "to do" list to photograph my entire 401 collection - inspired by others who've done it.
I procrastinated because I was trying to find a more artistic way to capture them, but I reached my creative limits for this assignment. lol.
I collect 401s for the same reason as some others in the group... can't own the whole set but 1 from each set is good. These bowls are so handy and useful - for eating, serving, as prep bowls... and they fit in my cupboards so they get used.
Still have a few on my wish list. :-)
