Class 40 no.40096 runs through the down fast line at Lancaster with a prefabricated track train from Fazackerly to Carnforth on 17th June 1982.
No location for this one taken from a slide processed in January 1974. That said I suspect D296 hadn't got a boiler by this time and the weather points more towards summer.
In view is still green Class 40 296 working a passenger service. The electrification poles are up but no wires, for some reason I think the location may be around Lancaster.
The loco was new from the Vulcan Foundry to Crewe North in October 1960 and became 40096 under tops. Withdrawl was in December 1983 and cutting up at Doncaster Works the following June.

An acquired slide which caught my eye due to the loco, but that turns out to be false! Aviemore on the 8th of July 1981 and Class 40 40056 is on the sleepers from Euston. The original loco given was 40096 did not have a boiler at the time and would have would have been unusual.
The other explanation is it is not 40096! If anyone is enough of an expert to tell from the Image which is not great please let me know.
Thanks to Rail Rover for clarifying.
