Another Cherry Blossom shot using a 50mm. I’m in a b&w mode lately, but this has to be in colour.

Daisy sat at the patio doors for ages, just staring as the snow fell. She's seen snow before - & even lived outdoors in snow when she was a stray kitten - but obviously found the falling snowflakes fascinating.

Quatchi was so charming at the bar..."I'm gunna fly us to my villa in Barcelona next week". But I quickly realized he didn't have a villa. He didn't even have a bus pass!

I feel so cheap.

Love as a word for a score of zero has been used in the sport of tennis since the late 1800s. Frankly, how love became a word for zero is baffling, but so is the overall scoring system for tennis. The points progress from love to 15, 30, and 40, which are relatively equivalent to 0,1, 2, and 3 in points per game. For example, if the player serving wins the first point of a game, then the score is "15 - love" or "fifteen (to) love" in their favor. Etymologists aren't exactly sure how love came to mean "zero," but, as we said, there are theories.

It has been suggested that the "tennis" sense of love is derived from French l'œuf (the vowel in this French word has no English equivalent, but approximations would be something like "LERFF" or "LUFF"); œuf means "egg." It is said that when the game was imported into France from England, the French used the word l'œuf to mean "zero," due to the resemblance of an egg to the written figure 0. ( Merriam-Webster)

Union Pacific's (second) SD40N No. 1687 is currently assigned to the LUL41 local out of Provo, Utah. I was excited to catch on December 14, 2025, as it is one I hadn't photographed before. Or was it?

I checked my photo archive and discovered a photo of the same engine shot on Kodachrome more than 40 years ago. it was a standard SD40-2, from UP's second to last order of the series.

The 3787 was built in La Grange, Illinois for Union Pacific in November 1980. I photographed it leading an eastbound train out of North Yard in Salt Lake City, Utah on April 27, 1985.

PREFACE

"SHADHINOTA is My Cause for the 40th Celebration of BANGLADESH Independence. The land, the mighty rivers and the natural beauty makes Bangladesh a land of unparalleled splendor and magnificence. Bangladesh was liberated after a prolonged war of Independence the declaration of which was given on 26th MARCH 1971. One of the worst genocides Genocide in history took place at the behest of an autocratic regime in the name of Political stability spearheaded by the then Pakistan President Yah ya Khan. After 9 months of Liberation water and the sacrifice of 3 million lives Victory came. In addition to the loss of lives countless others were rendered homeless, the infrastructure including roads and bridges and factories lay in ruins. The people of Bangladesh have shown time and again how resilient they are. After each and every disaster, natural or man-made the people have again stood up and started all over again from scratch.

My Effort here is to pay tribute to the valiant sons of the soil and the ‘die hard’ attitude of a people who can still smile in the face of adversity however great it may be. I plan to make a collage of images that represent the lives of the people of Bangladesh. I encourage you to upload a photo each day till I have a total of 40 images for the Cause SHADHINOTA in the group Frame BANGLADESH"
