One of the chief big bads of D&D's Eberron setting, Lady Vol is a lot of things at once. Dragonmarked nobility. Elf. Half-dragon. Undead lich. Military leader. Cult leader. Minor goddess.

Born in secret as part of an ill-fated attempt to end the eternal rivalry between elves and green dragons, Erandis was instead seen as an abomination, and her Dragonmarked house was nearly eradicated. Her mother transformed her into a lich, and Lady Erandis Vol, last member of the House of Vol, went on to pretty much become one of the worst people alive. This is why you do not turn your children into deathless abominations.

Lady Vol has typical villainous machinations, just like any D&D baddie. She also seeks revenge for her life and house - though instead of taking it out on elves and dragons, she's conquering everybody. Lady Vol leads the Order of the Emerald Claw, one of the few unambiguously evil lal-human organizations in Eberron (since the setting TRIES to be somewhat less cut and dry), and also secretly leads the Blood of Vol, a death-worshipping cult that surprisingly isn't ALWAYS easy (some practitioners are a little ignorant about what it's all about). Vol has enough followers to have attained a divine rank, too.

All that, and she can't afford a good wrinkle cream. Great pope hat, though.

They're looking for somebody. Somebody small. And when they find him... SQUISHIES!!!!

These creatures from the dark side of the moon may look like unintelligent toads, but they are powerful and ancient creatures of the dream realms, sailing through those worlds and trading with the denizens of many, many dimensions. The People of Leng are their main servants, and do their will throughout the universe.

Moon Beasts first appeared in The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath.

Platinum Dragons are worth more money because... oh wait, right. There's only one of them, and that's Bahamut. Noble, majestic, heroic, and, well, a god, Bahamut was first thought of as a dragon deity (and not a big turtle-whale-hippo) thanks to Dungeons & Dragons, and he has stayed that way since. It's all cool, though.

Hey, it's the Glabrezu again! In Pathfinder, which is D&D by another company (developed as kind of a 3.75 Edition when D&D's 4th Edition came out. Eh, I like them both, so yay), they took the D&D Glabrezu and then changed it juuuuust enough to be okay. But they technically didn't change the name... except for the mini, which does not use the G-word.

It's still technically a seductive demon. Oh, baby!

Darkmantles generally like to hang on the ceiling, only to drop down and try to eat their prey. I think they are adorable.

The Darkmantle SEEMS like a classic D&D monster, but it only goes back to 3rd edition - that's because it's sort of a hybrid combo between the Dropper and Piercer and Cloaker monsters! In fact, this little ceiling-dropping squiddlydoo even got a movie appearance in the (not quite as bad) second D&D film, Wrath of the Dragon God.

a design for construction of urine pits, from the "Royal Air Force Pocket Book" 3rd Edition June 1937

Dungeons & Dragons forever transformed ghouls. Instead of Arabic cannibal-monsters, D&D made Ghouls into disturbingly intelligent and resilient zombies with a paralyzing touch and a taste for human flesh. Although they are not as smart as in their former lives, ghouls are sharp enough to hold a full conversation, or use tactics. But they will eat. Oh, yes, they will eat.

As destructive and capricious as their elemental origin, fire elementals love nothing more than setting everything they see aflame. They're worse pyromaniacs than your average fourteen-year-old.

Eberron isn't just about warforged and cities and planes. It also contains the terror of the Dreaming Dark.

The Quori are extradimensional horrors who nearly corrupted and devoured the world, but have been permanently sealed away in another plane (well, as permanently as your DM wants). They may still influence the world by influencing and warping others through their dreams, or possessing the Kalashtar people. Of course, it wouldn't be D&D if everything wasn't statted up, so it is possible to encounter and face them directly somehow. Tsucora Quori are the weakest of the lot - and you know what? They are most definitely not pushovers.

It's a pity that they never made minis of the bigger and more surreal Quori, though this one is nightmarish enough.

It may seem weird for an air elemental to wear armor, but Archons need it to bind their forms together! Air Archons are essentially living wisps of tornadolike wind, and are the fastest of their archon kin. They fly, wreak havoc, and use chain whips as their primary weapons. Plus, you really have to aim for the armor to harm one, as its body is insubstantial otherwise.

Although silver dragons live generally solitary lives, these ice-breathing creatures are warm and caring to their young, as a clear illustration of

Metallic dragons are good! And Silver Dragons are some of the goodest of them all. Noble, wise, beautiful, they are actually fairly likely to ally with the players - Silver Dragons have enough of a sense of justice to help out. They breathe frosty cold as a breath weapon, similar to evil White Dragons.

Chimerae in Dungeons & Dragons swap out the snake head for a dragon head. This one is part Black Dragon.

One of the more obscure demon types in Dungeons & Dragons, the Cerebrilith is a psychic fiend that devours first your mind and then your brain! Although their brains are exposed through the bone cages over their foreheads, Cerebriliths are not fragile little creatures - far from it, they were a pretty good addition to the D&D bestiary, especially as enemies of psionic heroes.

Cerebriliths especially hate intelligent mortals, and go out of their way to attack them. This makes them similar to many of the people I know down here in the South.

A Dragonne is a fancy little beast that is somewhere between lion and brass dragon. More importantly, it looks like a TON of mythological monsters and heraldric symbols without actually being any of them! Is it a manticore? A shedu? A lamassu? A chimera? A dragon? The Tarrasque? Who knows!

It's actually one of the nicest-looking minis, aesthetics-wise. This is probably mostly because of that metallic sheen.

Creatures of darkness, Shadow Dragons are lords of the underworld caverns. They are not of this world, nor are they fully made of matter as we understand it, and are capable of sinking into any shadow and reemerge from any other, teleporting in the darkness behind this dimension.

F2, 樹葉, 散景我頗愛

There are a few kinds of desert dragons in D&D. lightning-spitting Blue Dragons are the most well-known, but Brown Dragons can not only blend in with their sandy surroundings, they also breathe either acid or blinding blasts of sand based on which edition or sourcebook you are reading. I love their design, too, and the way they seem to match up with a desert environment.

Another classic D&D monster, the Dire Wolf is roughly the size of a horse, covered in spikes, and as intelligent as a human.

But Dire Wolves were a real thing... and they were kind of small. And they are extinct now. OH WELL!

The Dire template in D&D can be added to almost any naimal - so yes, there are Dire Weasels, chickens, bears, monkeys, and pretty much anything else you can think of.

Everything has pointless variants. Rimefire Griffons are tougher Griffons who are icy. And fiery. And pretty white. So there!

Actually, it is kind of pretty. I like it.

Field sketching for signs in topographical detail taken from the Royal Air Force Pocket Book of 1937 (3rd Edition)

So, D&D took Gorgons and called them Medusae (Medusas? Medusases?), and then took the Catoblepas and called it a Gorgon, and then also made a Catoblepas, too.

Gorgon Bulls appear to be made of metal, and breathe a poisonous gas that can petrify people. And, uh... well, there you go. Dungeons & Dragons and mythology.

Not all ghosts were humans in life. There are things in this earth that mankind has never dreamed...

I want to rig up one of these (or maybe a picture, since the real one is just that shadow beholder miniature) right in front of someone's face at night, and see what happens. The perfect alarm clock!

Albert Einstein's lesser-known brother, Jimmy, had his share of mental problems.

ANYWAY.

Derro are probably related to dwarves. Maybe. Or gnomes. Or they are just their own little kind of crazy. These tiny little subterranean folks have one defining racial trait: They are crazy. All of them. Every last one of 'em. As loony as a three-headed teamster.

But I wouldn't have it any other way.

Dragonspawn are weird draconic hybrid mutants, sometimes barely resembling their original Draconic roots. Greenspawn Razorfiends seem somewhat insectile, and use their razor-sharp wings as weapons.

Not everything has to make sense! Digesters are like dinosaurs, except not at all, and they spew acid over stuff for no good reason. Raaawr, Digester!
