Say it ain't snow! After being led on that this was the winter to change my perception of living in Madison, old man winter made a surprise visit today. Though the day started with light (and by light I mean so light you couldn't even feel the flakes) snow falling in Madison. As the day went forth, the snow and wind picked up: by the time I headed home from work around 4 we had just over 3 inches of snow on the ground. Cooler temperatures kept the snow from melting, as the salt trucks were out in the early morning and plows had not yet come out. The drive home was more of a struggle then I had expected, the twists and turns of small city streets that my car loves in the summer were turned into a labyrinth of snow ruts and ice patches.
I knew both from the Corvette in the ditch on the drive home, and the amount of traffic that it would be a while before I got home. Like the little engine that could I found myself chanting "I know I can, I know I can" as I neared my parking spot. Fearing the worse I spent three dollars on a mini-shovel just in case I had to shovel a parking spot out. I arrived at the ramp, cheering myself on "I MADE IT I MADE IT!" But as I drove up the seemingly dull ramp it became apparent that my car (nomatter where I live) will never be a true match for the snow. Spinning out about half way up, I put the Rolla in reverse and back up and parked on the street.
After what seemed like forever (in reality only an hour) I managed to clear enough snow to get my car through half the battle and trudged through to my spot. Upon parking, I breathed a sigh of relief: knowing my vacation has officially begun!

My entry in Sky TV's Portrait Artist of the week :: Clare Balding :: mixed media coffee, mud (from recent dust storm) & charcoal on canvas
Just a tiny bit of lightning in frame, wish I'd gotten a bigger streak. Somewhere in rural Columbia or Dane County, I don't remember honestly.
Many leaves being blown down with the chilly wind on our Saturday morning dog walk. Tweaking the saturation has really accentuated the colours.

In the winter months we think anyone on a motorcycle is crazy, but come summer; and warm weather it seems like the best way to feel a warm breeze!
