Really sick of it being dark by the time I'm home from school. It actually gets dark at like 4:30, then I have no chance to think of something outside, and I'm stuck either doing something inside with bad lighting or using flash. Agh.
August 4th.
Set out for some urban exploring with a friend, in some spots we saw during the week. We slipped into this asphalt-making factory. We stayed there a long time. On our way out of the factory, we got caught by the police. Since we didn't steal anything and looked rather nonthreatening (except for my mate's beard and long hair), they let us go, with our names and addresses. First time!
It's a big splash of bitumen down on the platform. Pretty dirty place.

Linn FD Command activated MABAS Division 103 Box #33-1 to the 2nd Alarm for a full response and to the 5th Alarm for tankers only. Fire departments responded from all over Walworth County and also parts of northern McHenry County. No news has been released yet about the cause of the fire.

On August 4th, a large fire consumed a barn full of hay in the Town of Linn, Wisconsin. Initial reports indicated there had been around 2,000 bales of hay inside when the fire broke out. Linn FD Command activated MABAS Division 103 Box #33-1 to the 2nd Alarm for a full response and to the 5th Alarm for tankers only. Fire departments responded from all over Walworth County and also parts of northern McHenry County. No news has been released yet about the cause of the fire.

Sometimes you have one of those moments when you realize you're going to remember something forever.
After a frustrating day of trying to make something new and a bit complicated for dinner and tackling Abby for the tape while wrapping Joe's presents, I just gave up. Dan Fogelberg's "Same Old Lang Syne" came on the radio and I was getting ready to turn it off and just watch Caillou.
Abby heard the beginning piano and ran to get her tutu. She began to do her ballet dancing. She asked me to dance with her.
We were dancing to the song. The Christmas tree was lit. The other Christmas lights were on. And then it hit me. This is one of those moments. I stared at her to burn it into my memory.
The chocolate smudge on her face, the goofy Elmo outfit from my grandfather, the mussed up hair from a removed rubber band.
I started to cry. It was unexpected, but needed. I guess from feeling crappy from my discussion with my husband last night, the tears just needed to come. They're not tears of sadness, they're not tears of happiness. I think they're tears of gratification. Grateful to know how lucky I am at this specific moment in time.
Abby said, "Mommy, cry?" That made me cry a little harder. I was tempted to take her picture, but I wanted the experience to be free to be embellished and romanticized by my mind over time, not captured by my camera.
That being said, I finished the dance and then grabbed my camera afterwards for a mediocre picture, but a meaningful 365 portrait of a day that I hope to never forget.
