LBN 331 (also known as the "Cygnus Waves") is a faint, delicate hydrogen emission nebula - a pure Hydrogen-alpha (Hα) emission region - located in the constellation Cygnus, about 1,100 light-years away. It is centered around the double star 32 Cygni. It is a popular astrophotography target because its delicate, wave-like filaments closely resemble the Veil Nebula. The nebula's waves are energized primarily by the binary star system 32 Cygni. This is an eclipsing binary system made up of a massive K-type (cool) supergiant star and a much smaller B-type (hot) star.
