Patrick just got off the bus, crossed the street, and was coming my way. Hat, bandana, Obama t-shirt...oh my. I knew I had to ask.
"Can I take your photo?"
"What for?"
"I'm working on a photo project called 100 Strangers..."
"Are you gonna pay me?"
"Haha...no."
Points to his friend, "Take a photo of her."
"But I love your look man."
"Alright."
Snap.
Well, the exchange was funnier in person. And I should have asked him to mirror Obama's look. :)

Self portrait! It's really weird because I don't really do that! But, I have a studio piece I'm working on, and I suppose posting something related to it would do well. I'm wearing a shirt, don't worry.
The background behind this series in project refers to contrasting colors and the true self that is often revealed in it. So yeah.

It's final exam time for me -- again. So I'm thankful that the Indianapolis Zoo was such a fruitful photo outing last weekend! The Zoo includes White River Gardens, a conservatory and botanical gardens, so any visit to the Zoo promises fauna and flora! Last week was all about the fauna, so this week we'll go the other direction.
I wandered the botanical gardens, dodging great big bees and a little sad that the heat and lack of rain had taken such a toll on so much of the gardens, and about the time I was ready to give up and head back to the Zoo, I heard a water feature and continued to the very last garden. I'm so glad I did!
Adjacent to the fountains, there was a water garden, complete with water lilies. I've been looking for water lilies or lotus flowers all summer, and not only did I finally find some, but they were lush and in such pristine condition.
Water lilies always make me think of Monet and his gardens, and I can understand his fascination. This pink water lily captured my eye the most, and I'm really happy with this image. The water in the pool was dark and still, and reflected the sky and clouds in a dark, impressionistic sort of way. But most of all, I am so drawn to the surface tension in the water surrounding the lily's petals. Those "dents" make this photo for me. A little science makes everything better!
OK, back to the books. And then I have two whole weeks off before Fall semester starts! Woot!
