Il fatto che indusse nel 1463 ca. a commissionare il Quadro di S. Andrea, meglio noto come Battaglia tra Ginesini e Fermani accadde oltre ottant’anni prima della sua raffigurazione sulla celebre tavola ginesina. Il 30 novembre 1377, ad un’ora antelucana (la quarta vigilia della notte, corrispondente alle 4 antimeridiane di oggi), mentre i ginesini ignari del pericolo erano immersi in un tranquillo sonno, chiusi nelle loro case, perché “niun recente dissapore fra i due popoli (di San Ginesio e di Fermo) era corso che potesse riaccendere l’odio”, nei pressi delle mura di ponente si stava tramando da parte d'una brigata di mercenari, composta anche da alcuni fermani, un’aggressione a tradimento. Un buon numero di soldati, infatti, che nei giorni precedenti la vigilia di S. Andrea si era radunato nel vicino castello di Gualdo e presso la contrada ginesina di Piandipieca, riuscì a passare silenziosamente “sotto la condotta d'un cittadino fermano di casa Adami” (famiglia, ad evidenza, fautrice del nemico) e ad occupare momentaneamente, oltrepassando la Porta Brugiano, il Colle S. Giovanni, vicinissimo alla sunnominata porta di cui oggi è scomparsa ogni traccia. San Ginesio avrebbe sicuramente subito la sorte di Troia, data alle fiamme dagli assalitori, riusciti a varcare le sue mura con l’inganno, se una fornaia, levatasi di buon’ora per destare i suoi aiutanti ed avviarsi al quotidiano lavoro di cottura del pane, intuendo l’immediato pericolo, non avesse dato tempestivamente l’allarme in modo da svegliare di soprassalto i ginesini.

Ancora “mezzi sonnacchiosi”, i soldati di San Ginesio brandirono le armi e fronteggiarono gli aggressori che, non avendo sufficiente conoscenza delle strade del paese, furono ricacciati fuori della porta da cui erano entrati, fino alla vicina zona di pianura, dove iniziò la vera e propria battaglia, alle prime luci dell’alba, che si concluse con la sconfitta della masnada di assalitori, i quali lasciarono sul terreno tante vittime da far denominare il teatro dello scontro Pian del Sangue. Durante il combattimento, avvenuto nel giorno della festa di S. Andrea, sopra la torre e l’abside della chiesa di S. Agostino, la tradizione vuole che apparisse prodigiosamente il santo “tutto raggiante di luce, ed avente il vessillo in mano, quasi presagio di sicura vittoria”, riportata ben presto dai difensori di San Ginesio.

Arriva Kent & Surrey are coming off route 32 (Guildford - Redhill) on Saturday 30th May 2015. They have run it since the demise of Tillingbourne in 2001. Compass Bus will take over the service from Monday 1st June 2015. The Sunday service, run by Buses Excetera, is unaffected.

DAF 3937 (GK52 YVB) has just reached the top of Cronks Hill here, and will run into Reigate via Chart Lane, Lesbourne Road and Bell Street.

Lesbourne Road is home to the old London & Country garage in the town.
