First time I've ever seen a drone show live in person, and it was pretty special - the castle lit and used as a projection canvas too, and water fountains as well - fireworks are becoming a thing of the past, and yet the shows get more spectacular.

Lachlan is off to Beaver's Camp today, so only Hamish left with us. He is a bit lost without his big brother....

I thought this picture of Hamish walking back through the woods alone summed up how he was feeling today.

I watched this hollow in one of the largest river red gum eucalyptus trees at Simpson's Gap in Alice Springs for a few days as these two budgie youngsters were very curious of the world outside their tree branch home, with the parents actively trying to coax their offspring to fledge. Within the next two days both youngsters would successfully leave the safety of their nest.

30th Street Station is the main railroad station in Philadelphia, Pa. I shot this during the day and stacked three neutral density filters to get 9 stops. It ended up being a 30-second exposure.

I spotted this lone gorse bush on my way through Wasdale today, it was catching the light nicely so I went off to investigate.

This was taken as an 8 shot panorama with the first part of my "under development" panoramic solution in place in the form of a levelling base. This small addition had made a massive difference to the ease of taking the shots, next stop - a pano head!

A grimy Eastfield allocated 37204 ambles south light engine through Doncaster past the recently constructed Doncaster Power Signal Box, 30th July 1977.

Locomotive History

Originally D6904 it was built by English Electric at the Vulcan Foundry, Newton le Willows, entering service in November 1963, allocated to Cardiff Canton MPD. Transferred to Scotland (Eastfield) in May 1968 it would remain in Scotland for almost ten years until transferred to Tinsley in January 1978. It received a classified repair at Doncaster works in the Autumn of 1978 and emerged in October 1978 with its steam heating boiler isolated, dual brake fitted and transferred back to Cardiff. In May 1979 it was transferred to Eastfield but within two months it was back on the Western Region allocated to Bristol. It received its last classified repair at Crewe works in September 1987 and on release was allocated to Tinsley. 37204 was fitted with CP3 bogies in May 1988 and renumbered 37378. It was transferred to Immingham in October 1993, Thornaby in March 1994 and finally back to Immingham in January 1995 from where it was stored unserviceable in March 1996. Unlike most locomotives withdrawn since privatisation 37378 did not linger as it was withdrawn two months later in May 1996 and broken up within a few weeks by CF Booth, Rotherham in June 1996.

In deepest Cornwall is the little Helston Railway and on my visit on the 30th June 2015 I have mis-read the timetable and turn up on a no service day. However all was not lost as a couple of the volunteers loaned me a high viz jacket and kindly showed me around. Principle motive power for the Helston Railway are two Ruston and Hornsby 0-4-0 diesel mechanical shunting engines and here is one 97649 standing in the platform at the railways terminus station at Prospidnick Halt.

Locomotive History

The locomotive is one of Ruston and Hornsby standard 0-4-0 diesel mechanical locomotives first introduced in 1946. This locomotive was built in 1954 at the Ruston and Hornsby works, Lincoln (works no. 327974). The 28 tonne locomotive is fitted with a Ruston 6VPH engine and a five speed semi-automatic gearbox, giving a maximum speed of 15mph. It was delivered to the British Sugar Corporation (BSC) at Bardney, Lincolnshire on 15 October 1954. It remained at Bardney until August 1982 when it was transferred to BSC's works at Kings Lynn, Norfolk. On 7 February 1997, Great Eastern Traction took possession for use at Hardingham Station, Norfolk until 28th June 1997 when it was transported to the Northampton Ironstone Railway Trust at Hunsbury Hill, Northampton. In 2007 the locomotive was purchased by three members of the Helston Diesel Group and it arrived at the Helston Railway on the 4th September 2007. Two locomotives of this design were purchased by British Railways in 1956 (Nos 11507/08 later renumbered to D2957/58) and they spent most of their lives allocated to Stratford until sold in 1967/8.
