This is the 6th shot of the sequence. I selected 4 from the first 7 shots to share. Taken with Oly Pro Cap High - 60fps. I have noticed with the Swallow, Bee Eater and Kingfisher that the flight postures repeats itself after the first 6 - 8 shots.

Black Redstart juvenile.
This year Manchester city centre has had 2 pairs of nesting Black Redstarts and both have double brooded. According to records Black Redstarts have never double brooded here but then again I don't think anyone has watched and protected them as obsessively as me. I have made it my mission over the last few years to try and prevent early chick mortality which in the past I have witnessed all too often. Many people it seems protect raptor nests (I'm one of them) but it seems there is little or no kudos for looking after nesting Black Redstarts which are, as a breeding species in the UK, about 30 times rarer than Peregrine Falcons! The bird in this image can perhaps be likened to a cat having nine lives. The bird has roosted in car and van engines and so I have had to request the vehicle owners to lift the their car bonnets so I could ensure the bird escapes. This bird has two siblings and they are along with the parents the stars in the private street they currently live in. What a joy!

Been out the last 2 morning looking for the Bee Eater to do flight shots. Managed to capture a few nice shots and along came this little beauty the CKF. Trying to catch this beauty inflight is another challenge.

Our little gorgeous friend the CKF is back. She is my first capture of the season. Drizzling a little. She is simply beautiful and loves the way she poses with her tail up.
Been struggling to get back to birding after the CV lockdown for months now. Got used to the routine and comfort of home with 6 months staying home. Hopefully this time around i succeed in getting back to shooting again. At least for the last week I have been out everyday taking pics. Keep finger cross.

Pick of the day. Shot this this morning with the EM1.3/300f2.8 with Pro Capture High (60fps) in SAF, Diamond Focus Area(5 points) ISO 2500, f8, 1/2500 at Fl 600(1200mm in 35mm mode). I love the Pro C feature becos it captures pose of BIF that I am not able with CAF. My response is just not quick enough.
I tried the new 150-400 Pro lens and loved it. But the addition 500gms compared to the 300f4 hurt my risk after 15 mins of hand holding. Cancel my pre-order for now.

Been stalking these swallows for 2 days to capture them in flight with the Pro Capture of the Oly EM1.3. Happy to share that I finally got the in cam for PC optimised and getting great inflight shots. Next posting.

Did not have the opportunity to capture Mr Rainbow this season. Managed to improve the PPing of these shots to get decent IQ. The shooting condition was very dim and shaded. Shot handheld with 1/8 sec. That's why I am hanging on to my Oly system for dear life - the great image stabilisation and Pro Capture feature.

Shot notes: added water, hah. Shot with a 300F4 paired with a 1.4x converter and slightly cropped before enhancement.
Troglodytes troglodytes. One of the UKs smallest birds.
This young wren was drawing the attention of the local nesting robins that were not happy. It just ignored them.
From archive last year winter visitor. Gorgeous little KIngy.
My gut feel is that the EM1 is sharper than EM1.2 when coupled with the 300f4.

With today being the first day of spring I just had to get out for an afternoon hike in the mountains. I wanted to scope out some habitat where I plan on putting some mountain bluebird nestboxes. As I was looking for some good spots in the area I had chosen lo and behold 2 beautiful male mountain bluebirds showed up. I was kicking myself for not having the nestboxes with me already. I hope to get back there tomorrow and get some out for these handsome guys.
These birds never let me get very close. This is a 100% crop.
