A simple picture of an Egyptian Vulture ... or is it ?

Yes it is an Egyptian Vulture at the Hawk Conservancy Andover.

But in photographic terms is is very difficult to get the eye and the beak both in focus on a bird looking straight at you. Plus this was taken in an aviary so you have to be at f4 to 'lose the mesh', so even less depth of focus.

This is two photographs one focused on the eye, and one on the beak. Then Focus Stacked with Photoshop. It has to be a very cooperative bird that does not move or react to the noise of the camera.

Simple.

not perfect ... next time 3 images ... but you can see the principle

Sorry - couldn't resist the cliché photo.

Weather was quite bad yesterday, so only got some phone shaps. Great memories though, with giant rocks in the mist.

LMS Stanier 'Black Five' 4-6-0 44984 (Horwich Works/1946) simmers in the gloom of Nottingham Victoria station, despite the sunshine outside, as it waits with the last up service train, the 17:15 to London Marylebone. 03/09/1966 [GB 352].

And the last Trainer for tonight, another Roe bodied Atlantean SUA 129R is also a visitor to Crook Street, surprise !! Looking resplendent in yet another training bus colour scheme, has again probably made its way over the Pennines to use the excellent canteen facilities at this garage. Sadly missed.
