It’s Hard To Imagine
It’s hard to imagine, today, the evils of yesterday; it’s hard enough to fathom the evils of today. It’s even harder to believe that different evils can come to us in the future than those we’re dealing with now; or that the evils of the past can recur, or that we could be faced with some different version of them; that the laws we pass now, to try to deter an attack from a particular front, could hinder us from protecting ourselves in the future.
We don’t really want to talk about what “could happen,” and it even sounds ridiculous to worry about some of the maybes, that only *possibly*, *might*, be. So we make it sound like a game, or at least we try to be non-specific, and we talk about things like “zombies.” Because we don’t want to imagine what we might need this or that for, but we know they might be useful someday. Or maybe we can imagine, or we’ve taken seriously the warnings of those who have imagined, but we don’t want to sound crazy. We don’t want to say things like “when the commies land,” or “if a whole section of the country suddenly floods, *after* a single, big storm passes.” Now that would be ridiculous, wouldn’t it?
Today, when we are concerned about what one or two people can do with a few high capacity magazines, or with access to explosives and the materials to make them, it’s hard to imagine that we may ever have to worry about what a large crowd can do to only one or two people. Or that, God forbid, instead of us worrying about what a terrorist can do to our government buildings, our lives and liberty will ever be in danger from our government, or some faction thereof, with no civil remedy with which to answer our attackers. But it is possible. And it’s even harder to imagine, because unfortunately it’s historically proven unlikely, that those in danger from the powerful will be able to reverse, in time to protect themselves, the laws that we have put in place to restrict the liberty of evil men, while in fact restricting the liberty of all men.
We’d like to limit power to wield a sword to those whose job it is to wield the sword of justice, but while we can limit the power to fight to our government, and to our paid fighting men, we cannot endow those men with the omniscience or the omnipresence needed to, in all ways and at all times, protect us. Neither can we guarantee that those in power are and will remain who we’ve known them to be, or that their successors will be as trustworthy as we believe they are. The best and safest protection the law can afford us is to first allow everyone the right to protect and provide for himself. After that we can worry about giving our government the power to further protect us - as long as we don’t give such unanswerable power to our government as we would be afraid to have fall into the hands of our enemies.
Maria shootin my AR. She is NOT afraid of the big bad wolf.....
I mounted the old scope on my AR and we gave it a try on a Cold day at the range. I could not get the scope forward enough to allow for adequate eye relief. Back to irons.....

Ruger, K10/22-TBBZ is Maria's new baby. Fancy 20" bull barrel and all, the jury is still out weather this shoots any better than her regular, barrel banded, stainless 10/22. We've tried Federal, Remington (Golden bullet), Winchester (target), Eley (target and club), Wolf (match), CCI (sv). CCI SV turned in the best 10 shot group at 100 yards of 2 inches. This is only a little better, if at all, than our other (cheaper) 10/22's with cheaper ammo. Only been out with it 3 times so we'll keep trying. O and I wrote to Ruger and they responded "The accuracy of this model is 1" at 50 yards. Has the firearm been cleaned? Are you using open sights or scope?" Well, if we had known it would only shoot 2 MOA we would have probably have bought something else. Also they ask questions in the response and you can not respond to the email as in "Please note: This e-mail is sent from a notification-only address that cannot accept incoming e-mail. Please do not reply to this message." And Finally the moron who wrote this asks the question "Are you using open sights or scope?"..... the rifle DOESN'T COME WITH OPEN SIGHTS. I ain't to happy about this.....

Tribulus terrestris lies in the foreground. This weed is a notorious bicycle tire popper.
"Like many weedy species, this plant has many common names, including bindii, bullhead, burra gokharu, caltrop, cat's head, devil's eyelashes, devil's thorn, devil's weed, goathead, puncturevine, and tackweed."

My "shaved" Rokinon 8mm f/3.5 fisheye lens was set at minimum focusing distance and f/22 to keep most of the foreground in the DOF (or near it).
Cropped.

Amazing deeply-etched sculpted Death Tarot Card replacement grips by @Wicked_Grips made for an outstanding birthday present for my friend's Colt 1911 Model 70 .45 caliber! Wicked Grips also made the devilishly cool skull spring cap you see pictured. You really have to check out this incredibly talented artisan, Ed Strange, & his website www.WickedGrips.com. I also love their bas-relief, stainless steel skull Glock slide plate, that I have on several pistols. I'd love to get more for a Glock 43 & Gen5 if & when they become available so they all match. I'm really hoping the deep-etched/bas-relief replacement grip concept is a success, as I'd love to incorporate this amazing look to all my guns with replaceable grips & parts (i.e., Desert Eagle). Not that I am eager to give away my secrets as to how I have such unique looking firearms, but such talent deserves recognition & a hearty endorsement. 👍💀🔫🔧

This image came from my old Nikon D50 DSLR, with a low-end Nikon 70-300mm f/4-5.6 "G" lens mounted. The lens was at 300mm and wide open (f/5.6). I had the D50 at ISO800 under the cloudy sky to freeze squirrely motion. Exposure comp. was at +1 to get some detail in the shadows without blowing out the sky too much.
As you can see, the as-shot image is terrible, with tons of chromatic aberration, too-dark shadows (despite a +1 exposure comp), soft details and quite a bit of noise.
In the previous image in my photostream, you'll see what a difference some post-processing can make with a poor image.
