Canon 5D Mark II - 24-70mm L USM

750mm gauge 2-10-2T no. 099 737 is seen waiting departure from Cranzahl with train 14315 the 14.23 to Kurort Oberwiesenthal.

The locomotive was formerly numbered 99 1772 but had recently been renumbered to conform with the DB computerised numbering system ahead of the merger between DR and DB after unification. The 17km line climbs steeply from the town of Cranzahl into the mountains on the border with the Czech Republic terminating at the winter resort town of Kurort Oberwiesenthal. With the DR narrow gauge network facing a bleak future after unification its pleasing most have survived into private ownership this one now being operated by SDG Sächsische Dampfeisenbahn GmbH.

SLM 989 0-4-2T 5 "Moel Siabod" SLM 2869 0-4-2T 7 "Ralph", Snowdon Mountain Railway, 08/06/1989

This is a little 2-6-6-2T Logging locomotive that I bought on Ebay a couple of weeks ago. I removed the old paint, disassembled the model, cleaned everything and made repairs to the boiler and cab, I added a spark arrestor to the stack, added the bell and whistle cords, placed a deck panel on the fuel bin, changed the lead truck axle to a spoke type and finished it off with a light coat of brass and clear paint. It runs very well with it's gear reduction motor assembly and has no problem running at very slow speeds. Sorry for the bad video, my iphone doesn't take video up close very well.

BR Standard 3MT 2-6-2T 82019 at Kensington Olympia station, on a train of green BR 1950s slam-door suburban carriages, at the end of steam on the Southern Region, in July 1967.

The first carriage would appear to be the experimental BR fibreglass S1000S, which was in service on this route..

82019 was one of the last two locos of the class still in operation, based at Nine Elms depot, and the other one - 82029 - was seen there a month earlier:

Four more members of the class survived in storage until 1968, but were later scrapped.

None of these locos survived into preservation, but there is an active project to create a 'new' example, at Bridgenorth, on the Severn Valley Railway - www.82045.org.uk/index.html

Phantom Travel Ltd BUF 2T, a Volvo B9R built 2010 with Caetano Levante C48FLt body on Manchester Road in Bury by Starkies Wood with a Bury Interchange to Whitefield tram stop Metrolink replacement bus service. Thursday 25th March 2021

Note, BUF 2T was originally operated National Express as number 116 with the registration FJ60 KVS. It was purchased by Phantom Travel Ltd (a Barrowford based operator) circa late 2020, being re-registered BUF 2T in early 2021

The Metrolink ran a replacement bus service between Bury Interchange and Whitefield tram stop from around 14:00 due a structural fault found in Whitefield Tunnel. The normal route to Radcliffe for a Metrolink replacement bus service was to run along Radcliffe Road and Bury Road, so did BUF 2T run via Dumers Lane, Bury Street and Cross Lane or did it run directly to Whitefield tram stop missing out the Radcliffe tram stop

Stanier 3P 2-6-2T leaving St. Pancras station, in the late-50s-early-60s..

The class were all withdrawn by September 1962, and their only real claim to fame is that they were considered to be the least successful of any Stanier design.. Not surprisingly, none were preserved..

Today, this is the location of the Eurostar tracks into St Pancras International station, and the gasometers in the background have gone..

Image recovered from an original that had turned orange/brown..

That time of year again - better get the heatpack out.

Don't worry - it's sourced from sustainable forests, not old growth.
