2-AS-24 should still be in service in 2018, but will never fly from a carrier again. The Brazilian Navy has decommissioned her carrier in February 2017. The costs for maintenance and repair proved too high. :(
Note the name Mingão on the tow truck. That was the nickname of former aircraft carrier Minas Gerais.

The loco was withdrawn at the end of 1962, and scrapped in November 1963. None of the class were preserved.

Morning preparations. The sun is good for making photos. As soon as flying operation started the ship turned her nose into the wind and I had backlight.

U.S. Navy, 1958-1975; The S-2E/G carrier-based anti-submarine
warfare airplane.
ACQUIRED BY CAL FIRE
In 1996, CAL FIRE acquired 26 S-2E/G planes from the Department
of Defense. CAL FIRE converted the planes to a fire fighting
configuration and fitted them with modern, powerful turboprop
engines. The completely reconditioned S-2Ts are faster, safer, more
maneuverable, and carry a larger retardant payload than the
S-2A airtankers CAL FIRE had used since the 1970s. The final
three S-2Ts were completed and delivered in 2005.
CAL FIRE has 22 S-2T airtankers in service. One is permanently
stationed at the Sacramento Aviation Management Unit facility
for maintenance relief.
MISSION
CAL FIRE uses the S-2T airtankers for fast initial attack delivery
of fire retardant on wildland fires.

Whoosh! The moment the S-2 is launched by the bow catapult. The cable ('holdback') retaining the plane is cut. You can see the pulling cable ('bridle') in front of the main wheels, in the steam cloud. The system used on US carriers is newer and different.
Due to the acceleration the left side of the photo is unsharp.
Interesting to note is that the S-2 has two ship names on the tail: 25 the Mayo and Minas Gerais.
