After an afternoon walk we ended up in a local park. It was so peaceful. We sat and had our picnic lunch quite a way behind this couple who chose to sit a little closer to the pond to have their lunch. We all moved when the man on the lawnmower came to cut the grass and break the silence that we’d all enjoyed!

"A rose by any other name". The 273rd entry in Halton Arp's Atlas of Peculiar Galaxies (published in 1966) is often referred to as the "rose galaxy" or "cosmic rose". Arp 273 is a pair of interacting galaxies, 300 million light years away in the constellation Andromeda.
The larger of the spiral galaxies, known as UGC 1810, is about five times more massive than the smaller galaxy. (The Uppsala General Catalogue of Galaxies (UGC) is a catalogue of 12,921 galaxies visible from the northern hemisphere. It was first published in 1973).
The larger companion has a disc that is tidally distorted into a rose-like shape by the gravitational pull of the smaller galaxy below it, known as UGC 1813. The smaller galaxy shows distinct signs of active star formation at its nucleus, and it is thought that the smaller galaxy has actually passed through the larger.
The apparent size of Arp 273 is only around 2 arcmin and it is quite dim, close to magnitude 14.

Mat’46 273 en Mat’54 386 van het Spoorwegmuseum rijden langs het Berkenlaantje in Soest. Vanwege het afcsheid van de spoorkruising in Blauwkapel reed het duo deze dag drie keer vanaf de Maliebaan via Soest naar Hilversum en via Blauwkapel terug. 14-5-2022.

Mat'46 stel 273 van het NSM is regelmatig gebruikt voor het vervoeren van Prins Carnaval. In de veronderstelling dat de opname uit 2020 voor carnaval was werd deze foto klaargezet. Een blik in het archief leerde echter dat dit fraaie stel op deze dag onderweg was naar Horst-Sevenum voor de feestelijke opening van de Gekkengraaf terminal. Nadat ik het stel al bij Schalkwijk had kunnen vastleggen bleek ook het station van Vught nog haalbaar door een sectiestoring in Geldermalsen. En zo zien we het fraaie stel in Dommelbaorzedurp passeren op 5 maart 2020.
