The sun is trying to burn through over the peak.

July 24, 2008. A few thoughts on the first 100 days of this project:

It’s harder than I thought. And I thought it was going to be hard. I don’t know how the 365 Self Portrait folks do it. It’s hard enough taking pictures of something other than me. That being said, I would like more pictures of people in my project. I will work on that.

Some of my favorite shots from these past 100 days were 99% luck and 1% having a camera with me (e.g., day 39). Of the other shots, I tend to gravitate to textures and patterns (days 6, 20, 25, 29, 33, 67, 90). While that is nice, it doesn’t tell much of a story and, while perhaps interesting to me, there isn't much in the way of “general appeal”.

That being said, I’m pretty happy with my project. I haven’t taken a picture of the clock at 11:59PM, nor have I taken a picture of the American Flag on the barn just off Highway 52 on the way to work. And I do think I've grown as a photographer. At least I understand my equipment and my abilities better than I did 100 days ago.

I switched from a Windows machine using Photoshop Express to a MacBook Pro using Aperture on day 54. The best thing I’ve done, computer-wise, since broadband. I’m still learning all that Aperture can do, but for organization and most post-processing tasks it absolutely rocks. The low-light ability of the Rebel XT, however, leaves quite a bit to be desired (day 32).

I appreciate all of the comments that have been left for me. I started this project with the goal of growing as a photographer, and feedback from others is a great way to learn. Please keep coming to my project, and feel free to leave me feedback, positive or negative.

Onward…
