For all those lucky enough to go to Tenerife - the road to the Teno peninsula is now open thanks to the installation of huge steel meshwork which catches falling rocks. A real adventure this.

There is a National Nature reserve at the end of the road stuffed full of exotics for the botanist, huge waves and lava coves for the geologist and the gorgeous Tenerife lizards. The trick is to sacrifice some of your lunchtime banana, find a suitable habitat away from the car parks and pop little bits on the rocks. Sit back with camera in hand and wait. This is a female and the males are bigger but not as beautiful in my opinion. The females are like burnished gold. Gallotia galloti
