Burgenland is the easternmost and least populous state or land of Austria. It consists of two Statutarstädte (towns with a charter) and seven districts. It is 166 km long from north to south but much narrower from west to east (only 5 km wide at Sieggraben).

Burgenland has a very long border: To the west it borders the Austrian provinces of Niederösterreich and Steiermark. To the northeast it borders Slovakia, Hungary to the east and Slovenia to the farthest south.

Burgenland and Hungary share the Neusiedler See (Lake Neusiedl), known for its reed, shallowness as well as the mild climate throughout the year. The Neusiedler See is Austria's largest lake serving as a large tourist attraction bringing ornithologists, sailors and wind/kite surfers into the region north of the lake.

On the picture you see a very typical landscape of the middle of Burgenland.

The name of this village is Kroatisch Geresdorf (a small village in the middle of Burgenland. This is one of those old villages where people are bilingual. Here they speak German and Croation).

#215 I spent another evening on the "Elbstrand". Later in the evening I saw this beautiful colored moon. I had no tripod so I had to do a handheld-ISO800 try - the result is not too bad, at least I caught the light as it was;)

Technical: Handheld, 1/250s, f/2.8, ISO800, 100mm,

I chose to do a project for 2012 to improve my photography. The plan is to take pictures on as many days as possible and post a picture of 2012 each day.

Preserved Strathtay M.C.W. Metrorider 213, E 186 BNS is pictured approaching Brough Sowerby whilst taking part in a heritage running day.. This bus was new to Strathclyde's Buses (#M89) before being transferred to G.C.T. (#GM47) and later to Kelvin Central (#1059 then MM34 & finally MM89). It was later sold to Yorkshire Traction, initially for spares but deemed too good for that and placed in service numbered 352 before being transferred to Strathtay where it remained until being bought for preservation.

I wish I had upped the f-stop so her feet were in focus. Oh well. I still loved this pic....dry baby flakes on her face and all :)

Arp 215 (NGC 2782, UGC 4862, VV 1268 and others) is a Seyfert (I see references to a type 1 and 2) spiral located approximately 126 million light-years away in Lynx. It is suspected that the current form was the result of a galaxy merger in the past. Arp lists it in his category galaxies with adjacent loops.

The galaxy at the bottom left is UGC 4872.
