hello stranger,

though actually you aren't much of a stranger now, are you? because you've started reading and already, i feel the familiarity that makes me not know what to say. maybe, if i go back to thinking of you as a stranger, it will come easier. i am finally reading a book again today. i haven't finished a book in almost a year, but today i am on page 200 of Khaled Hosseini's "The Kite Runner". it is a great read so far, & i'm sure it will get better, because i have the unfortunate hindight of having seen the film before reading the book (never do that. a book is always lesser for it, sadly) I'm reading it as part of a summer project for my A2 English literature course, and if you are having second thoughts about paying for this, may i just say that i have heard nothing but gushes of awe when people who have read the book cross my path. the first was in a bookstore in manila, philippines, where i had a good conversation with one of the staff about literature. my future english teacher said, "it will give you nightmares" with a sad, thoughtful smile. but the most memorable was just yesterday (a date you will never find out because i am not dating this letter), when a teacher passed me in the common room and said, "that is a really good book." he paused for a while, not staring at anything in particular, before saying, "I found a way to be good again."

let me know if you do end up buying it, and if it moves you as much as everyone else i know was. I'll tell you what i thought about it, too. you're not a stranger anymore.

(putting this between the first few pages of a copy of said book in Waterstone's, sutton high street, london)

so i got my moxy back and finally started the project that's been sitting in my head for quite a while now, because today's gymb was along the same lines.
