Crow Butte Park, Benton County, WA. 10-27-17.
This gnatcatcher was enjoying the warm 60 degree weather at Crow Butte Park located on the Columbia River. This appears to be the 2nd record for Benton County, the 7th record for Eastern WA, and the 17th record for WA outside of Neah Bay.

Winding up my year end review, October and November blessed us with plenty of perfect Autumn days to spend caterpillar hunting along the trails, and we found some exciting first encounters on every hike! We'd never seen yellow Io caterpillars before, and they filled the woods, along with their lime green counterparts, until the very end of the season...and my first mature Tersa caterpillar really made my season! My jaw dropped when I found two Pawpaw caterpillars together for a perfect composition, as well!
Aside from caterpillars, I was amazed by other firsts, like an incredible Indigo Milk Cap Mushroom, my first shot of a spotted fawn, and a Harris' Hawk, way out of its usual range!
The annual roosting Monarchs at Fort Morgan have been quite a sight...and quite a few were still there yesterday!
Yep, 2017 was another year of great blessings and I'd like to thank you all for your friendship, visits, comments and faves...and of course, thank you all for sharing all of your incredible shots that brought me such beauty, smiles, insight and that familiar thought of 'wow, I wish I'd taken THAT!'
Wishing you all a fantastic year ahead in 2018, full of health and happiness! Happy New Year!

This is the Flying Dutchman, a love-child from the love triangle of a Mallard, a Garrett and my twisted mind. It's a fictional steam powered locomotive.
Some numbers:
Scale: 1/37, which gives us 3 studs a meter.
Lenght: 160 studs over the buffers or 53,3 meter.
Width: 9 Studs or 3 meter
Height: 14 Studs or 4,6 meter
Wheel configuration: Whyte: 6-8-8-8-6 or UIC: 6DDD6
Power output: 7150HP
Top speed: 219Km/h (136Ml/h)
It also has a belt feeder to keep up with the coal usage.
Some history:
In 1927 the Dutch firm "the Flying Dutchman Railroad Company" was in search of a new locomotive. The current locomotives weren't fast nor strong enough to run the tight stressed schedules.
Due to the tight corners in the tracks a simple larger locomotive wouldn't cut it. The choice for a articulated was strait forward. To cut the fuel consumption a streamlined loc was required (The Dutch are as gready as can be).
During the second test-run the Flying Dutchman reached such a high speed that it ended up in Poland and since has never been seen again.
Soon it became obvious that the Flying Dutchman was to fast for such a small country and it was abandoned.
I hope you guy's like it and please feel free to leave any thoughts and comments.
