The versatile class 08 can certainly shift a load considering its diminuitive size, 402 is seen dragging a loaded MGR to sidings beyond Arply so the train loco's can continue to Fiddlers Ferry, 1st June 1988.

Within minutes of an Up Freightliner passing Bagillt during an early morning visit to North Wales in July 1990, BR 20103 & 20186 appeared with a set of empty hoppers forming the 6D25 Fiddlers Ferry Power Station to Point of Ayr Colliery. Those were the days for Saturday freight action!

Although regular passenger services to the former Midland Railway station at Bolsover Castle ceased in 1930, excursion and other occasional traffic called until 1981. On 7 June 1979, almost thirty-five years ago to the day, 20103 trundles past with a brake-van bound for Bolsover Colliery, which itself closed in 1993.

Having earlier arrived from Hull on the 16.40 departure, Class 20 20103 of Tinsley is reversing back into Bridlington Station on the 24th of August 1979 with the ecs to form the 18.10 service back to Hull.

I was about to ride back to Driffield on the train whilst my father had come up from Driffield with it and would return on it also.

A busy scene at Stenson Junction. Something we were used to during these days...

This is Raja Brooke, Malaysian National Butterfly. We went in mid morning so we could catch them flew in for water. This is rain water where contains some minerals which they like to feed on. These are all male Raja Brooke, female Raja Brooke spends most time in canopy or tree top. They flew fast and with large wing, are angular, the wingspan is 16-18cm. I used my long lens for this shot and kept my distance.

20103 and 20143 Accerate away from Allington Juntion with 1E89 08.48 Leicester to Skegness on the 26th Aug 1985, shame about the wires in the background, one of my pet hates these days. The shot is now not possible as the new Allington cord is built where I was standing. This is an old scan that really wants redoing...

The above image is a scan from an original Kodachrome™ slide. The default size is 2000 x 1250 pixels, so clicking on the photo will enlarge it for better viewing.

The original image comes from my slide collection, amassed over the past 40+ years. They are a combination of my own photographs and ones acquired through trades or purchases.

I created this Photostream in 2017 for the purpose of holding my slide collection as an archive, as otherwise they would just remain in binders and boxes, not being enjoyed by anyone, myself included.

The "Coalville Cobbler" railtour came up from Euston to allow passengers to visit Coalville Open Day behind 33058. Here is the railtour stock being shunted behind Class 20s 20103/20186 before Class 37s took over for a run via Burton-on-Trent, Stenson Jct., Sheet Stores Jct. and Loughborough to Leicester.

From Leicester 33058 returned the railtour via Nuneaton back to Euston.

20103 was built, as D8103, in 1961. It was withdrawn from Toton in March 1991 and was scrapped by MC Metals in Glasgow in February 1992.

20186 emerged from the EE Vulcan Foundry in January 1967 and was withdrawn, also from Toton, in January 1992. It was also scrapped by MC Metals, in March 1995.

Reynolds (Halifax County) N.S. - this settlement is located on the Musquodoboit River about twenty-three miles south-east of Truro. It was part of the Fisher's Grant of October 6, 1786 and was probably named for Thomas Reynolds, one of the proprietors of Fisher's Grant. This settlement probably began in the area about 1785 when a group from Truro discovered the upper river and decided to stay. In 1895 there were 20 families in the area of Reynolds - by 1938 only 13 families were supported by the Post Office.

The Post Office at Reynolds was established - 1 January 1906 and was permanently closed - 30 June 1938 on the introduction of rural mail delivery to become Middle Musquodoboit RR #4.

Distance to nearest offices - Centre Musquodoboit, 2 miles - Upper Musquodoboit, 3 miles

This was a beautiful morning in late June 1981 and I had gone to Darfield Main on the Wath line in the hope of photographing Class 76s in their last few weeks of operation. However whilst I was waiting at the level crossing this Class 56 arrived at the adjacent colliery sidings and I was able to get a picture as it prepared to depart with a full mgr working. The time was 8.20 a.m.

Ex-works 56018 had passed by shortly before.

But no Class 76s!

20103 leaves the stabling point (the old stem shed) at Carstairs, 29th August 1978. I have a bit of a soft spot for 20103 as it was the last of the class in my number taking days.

Locomotive History

20103 was originally D8103 and was built by English Electric at the Robert Stephenson and Hawthorn works, Darlington. It entered traffic in December1961, allocated to Eastfield MPD for Scottish lowlands, and Fife coalfield duties. In the early 1980’s it came south to Tinsley. By 1982 20103 was an Immingham engine and was stored when a large number of the vacuum braked class 20 fleet were stored due to the reduction in coal traffic from pit closures and the continued introduction of air braked MGR coal wagons. 20103 was re-instated in 1984 following a General classified repair and fitment of air train brakes. On release it was transferred to Toton. However this “reprieve” proved to be relatively short lived because despite the investment 20103 was withdrawn seven years later in March 1991 and broken up by MC Metals, Glasgow in February 1992.
