Damian Gardiner on Quietude
It is extremely rare to see a warmblood jumper of this colour (palomino). He was of such striking colour that I knew I just *had* to take his picture for posterity.
I have tried to find information about this horse (and rider) all over the internet, but alas to no avail. I've always wondered what happened to this horse; what kind of career he had, where he ended up, or even whether if he is still alive today.

UPDATE 20/05/2007:
I received this email from a knowledgeable and frequent Spruce Meadows attendee who writes:
Damian Gardner is an Irish rider, that WAS training out of California, but that was four/five years ago, ...can't remember the last time he was up at Spruce, perhaps he has quit training.
This horse (who is not a "Grand Prix" horse, as this ring only goes up to the 1.45 meter division) has probably gone the way of most other hopefuls unfortunately.....
He sure is pretty though...
UPDATE 16/09/2013:
Alas, Damian Gardiner passed away, at the age of 43 at his San Diego, California home.
Gardiner was originally from County Mayo, Ireland, but moved to the California west coast where he lived for nearly 20 years. He won 175 Grand Prix events around the world and rode in the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, Georgia; along with with teammates Eddie Macken, Peter Charles and Jessica Kürten-Chesney.

I took this photo almost 5 years ago near the Gateway of India in Mumbai. I posted one of the series when I opened my Flickr account 2 years ago.
A comment I got almost 4 years after i have taken the photo was:
"She's named Lakshmi. I 've meet her first time in April 2002, gateway of India. She was eleven years old. I've came for the second time in India. She has joked joked of me because I didn't know about this country, culture, life. I've spent all the day with her and and her friend Mangeeta. Together, we' ve gone to Chowpatty beach, and played at the swing in the kindergarten.
When I 've came the following year, she has recognized me immediatly. She had the same beautiful smile, sense of humour and very clear mind. She's talk to me about her life, working in Colaba, asking for milk, smiling to the tourist people, making money for her family.
One year year later, I've returned in Mumbai, and I was sure to meet Lakshmi again. But Lakshmi was not here. Lakshmi was dead. Bomb blast, gateway of India, August 2004.
She was forteen years old. Her mother's accompanied me to the church to pray for her daughter. From this day, I've always keep the memory of Lakshmi with me. Surfing on the net to prepare a documentry on Colaba children, I've seen this picture. I've been very confused. I would to put this beautiful picture in my film."
Spotted this BMW 2002 in Lida today. It's the 1972 model. One of only 22 such cars in Sweden, according to the owner who was busy cleaning it in the spring sunshine. Shot this from inside the owners garage. Rear view.
