A ver qué pasa!!! Besitos!!
With over 200 pairs nesting here, Grays Lake refuge hosts the largest nesting population of sandhill cranes in the world.
Felt lucky to find these two.
They were busy eating with their heads down. . Finally, up come their heads for a brief second

So, whilst perusing my daily RSS feeds, I stumbled across this article describing an old magic trick, that is, extracting out some of the phosphorus and other materials from a match striker to make smoke appear on your fingertips, and I immediately thought of doing something like this. Only had a few small boxes of matches in the house, so I had a maximum of four attempts at this, which meant trying to nail the lighting and pose I wanted before trying "for real" (well, that, and it's mildly toxic, so fewer attempts == better. I only took two shots.) I thought throwing some light painting into the mix was appropriate; that part isn't bad, but a less-caffeinated hand might have gotten better results.
And, of course, if I knew I’d be doing this today, I wouldn't have trimmed the handlebars off the ’stache yesterday. C’est la vie.
All told, pretty close to what I imagined.
Also neat: the material glows as you rub it to produce the smoke.
Nikon D7000 w/Nikkor 50mm ƒ/1.8 prime, 10s @ ƒ/8, ISO100 (fired on 10 second self-timer); flashes on rear sync; one SB-700 camera right, 1/4 power, shooting through a white umbrella; second SB-700 also camera right, also 1/4 power, 120mm zoom, shooting through a 1/4" speed grid at my hands, with a silver reflector off camera left in an attempt to fill the shadows on my face a bit. Light painting was with a small LED lamp. Cropping and some minor adjustments in Aperture (burning the background down a hair), but pretty close to straight off camera.
