AS09-19-2919 (3 March 1969) --- The Lunar Module (LM) "Spider", still attached to the Saturn V third (S-IVB) stage, is photographed from the Command and Service Modules (CSM) "Gumdrop" on the first day of the Apollo 9 Earth-orbital mission. This picture was taken following CSM/LM-S-IVB separation and prior to LM extraction from the S-IVB. The Spacecraft Lunar Module Adapter (SLA) panels have already been jettisoned. Inside the Command Module were astronauts James A. McDivitt, commander; David R. Scott, command module pilot; and Russell L. Schweickart, lunar module pilot.

Ever since Daniel and I went around downtown pasting googly eyes on anything that remotely resembled a mouth, I've been seeing faces on inanimate objects left and right. So on Monday, when I went to grab my purse, I found myself suddenly confronted with the preposterously hilarious face that you see above...I seriously could not stop grinning.

Walter Kirn is the author of eight books and an e-book. His most recent is “Blood Will Out,” a memoir of his friendship with the con artist and murderer, Clark Rockefeller. His other books include “Up in the Air” and “Thumbsucker” (both of which have been made into feature films). His work has appeared in The New Yorker, The New York Times Magazine, The New York Times Book Review, The New Republic, Q, New York, and Esquire, among other publications.

A 19 shot panorama taken at 400mm (640mm equiv) @ f5.6 on my Canon 40D.
Only i would consider a panorama to be the sensible way to get a close-up shot of a bird.
U.S. Army Africa Brig. Gen. Eric Folkestad recognized the retirees of the Vicenza military workforce for their achievements and service to the Vicenza Military community at the Quarterly Retirement Ceremony held Sept. 26 at the Golden Lion Conference Center on Caserma Ederle.
The retirees at the ceremony were:
Lt. Col. M. Scott Jones (22 years of service); Maj. Randy C. Simon (20 years of service); Command Sgt. Maj. Philip E. Nicholson (31 years of service); Staff Sgt. David M. Thomas (20 years of service); Gilberto Berdin (36 years of service); Luisa Ballardin (24 years of service); Eric Baltes (19 years of service); Giuseppe Mosca (17 years of service) and Flavia Passatutto (8 years of service).
Family members of the retirees received certificates of appreciation.
