The Bloch MB.174 was a French reconnaissance airplane that was used during the Second World War. The aircraft is notable as the aircraft flown during the Invasion of France by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry author of The Little Prince.

The Aircraft was quite fast so it was able to evade most german fighters during the campaign. Under France Vichy Government control, MB.174s performed reconnaissance missions over Gibraltar.

Marcel Bloch, a French Jewish Aircraft designer, designed the aircraft. During the war he refused to work for the Germans, so he was arrested at the Buchenwald concentration camp. He later changed his name to Dassault, and created planes like the Mirage.

About the model:

I recently received a new LEGO windscreen and I thought it was perfect to make this aircraft. The model has a movable rear defensive gun and retractable landing gear.

PS: The translation of song's title is "The flower died" which is a metaphor for breakup.

The MB 174 was ai recon and light bomber aircraft developped in 1939, 50 of them were ordered by the french army to replace older planes. During the battle of France it appeared to be a fast and reliable aircraft. Since it could outspeed german fighters only 4 of them were lost during the campaign, the rest evacuated to Algeria in june 1940 and were modified at the end of the war to fulfill anti ship missions. Even if it was a good recon aircraft it wasn't a very effective ground bomber since it had a very limited bombload (initially 40kg) so it had to be improved to carry two 200kg bombs later in the war, on the other hand it had a decebt defensive armement with 5mg's to defend uts back (2 on the back and 3 «remoted» on the belly) it also had 2 offensive mg's under its wings. It was also operated by only 3 men, a pilot, a gunner and a man in the front canopy to do the recon and bombing job. This plane was made famous because it was the plane flown by the famous writter of «the Little Prince» Antoine de Saint-Exupéry during the battle of France.

Enough history, now let's talk about the model, first I would like to thank Lego Pilot on flickr for helping me for the engine technic on which I struggled. I also took inspiration from Einon mb174 for the wing dimensions and for the use of the front canopy piece.

So my model is obviously fitted with the battle of France camo (dark grey, brown and green), I also have the Vichy engine and tail camoflage but they don't match with the rest of my army. I applied some french light blur WW2 roundels.

There is enough space in the model to fit all the 3 crew members but also a nice bomb load of 2 200kg bombs in a compartment kust under the pilot. I also put all the mg's that the plane had and 2 of them are manually used by the rear gunner. The long bar under the left wing isn't a canon but the anenometer :)

A little thing that took me a while to make are the angled wings just after the engine section, it's actually hard to see it but it's there along with the angled tail ^^.

Of course it features rectractable landing gears

This is my first plane ever so I'm sure some things can be improved but I think it's not that bad, agin thanks to Lego Pilot, without him the engines would have been ugly :).

I really hope you guys like it as well and I'm looking forward for your thoughts in the comments. Next week I'll publish a little laffly V15T that I made a few weeks ago.

Having a received the info that the other 20 plate Mango E200 was out on the 20 all day today, I decided to make an afternoon of it, having walked from Nottingham to Beeston Town Centre, then back through the Rylands to get this photo.

174 turns into Lilac Grove on the edge of Beeston with the Boots Factory in the background with a 20 to Heanor via Beeston, Stapleford, Kirk Hallam and Ilkeston.

This is what happens when one tablet is out of commission. Also we had to move all our furniture out of the living room for some work being done in that area so the girls are happy to have couches in the playroom :)

Went to the local whale watching lookout, after doing our grocery shopping. Didn't see any whales, but did see this spear fisherman. NSW, Australia.

Trying out my Nikon P500 which has quite a good zoom, but I liked this more distant view.
