Wikipedia
This is one of those rare things - a shot that's 99% how I imagined it to be. This is inspired by this shot and this shot, both by Stephen Poff. Though it's much less fun than either. But it's the technique I'm exploring more than the image itself.
It's all about that feeling of waiting, hoping things will be OK without really knowing what to expect. It's also about working out what and who is really important and focusing on that.
After all the waiting and worrying everything turned out OK. Better than OK. But this feeling I'm trying to get across sort of stuck with me throughout the rest of the day . . . more the feeling of making sure I pay attention to those in my life that matter.
So that's the background to the shot, which - yes - I'm really happy with. Partly because it's exactly as I imagined it in my head, partly because it means something to me and partly because I put the effort in to get the image I wanted. I actually manually focused this shot (I used an eraser to set the focus) to make sure I got it right, rather than rely on the hit and miss nature of auto-focus. I'm thinking maybe the 50mm requires a bit more thought to set up a shot and get the end result you want. It worked today.
The only thing that stops me being 100% happy with this is that I don't think the focus is quite spot on. I'm talking increments here but it annoys me all the same. It's nearly there though.
It's a B&W shot (done in Lightroom) with a texture overlaid (in Photoshop). I dodged the area over my hand and used the healing brush to smooth out the texture layer - this was done to make my hand pop out of the shot a bit, not sure it's quite worked out that way but it's there or thereabouts. I erased the area over my wedding ring to give it a bit more clarity and re-imported the shot into Lightroom to up the exposure a bit.
And that's about it, apart from . . . 200 days to go! Ya . . . awwww, SHITE ;-)

KINGFISHER........Thank you to Clive & Alan for taking me to this site.........
Thank's to everyone who comments or fav's my shot's, it's very much appreciated.........Look on large.

An adult otter is 80 to 140 centimeters long, including the tail of 30 to 50 centimeters in length. The weight varies between 5 and 12 kilos and the shoulder height is on average 30 centimeters. Females are usually smaller than males. Males have a head-body length of 60 to 90 centimeters, a tail length of 36 to 47 centimeters and a body weight of 6 to 17 kilograms. Females have a head-body length of 60 to 70 centimeters, a tail length of 35 to 42 centimeters and a weight of 6 to 12 kilograms.
With its streamlined body, the animal is well adapted to life in water. The eyes and small closable ears and nostrils are aligned on top of the flat head, keeping them above water when the animal swims at the water's surface. The otter has webbed feet between the toes of all four short, powerful legs. The long, oval-round tail serves as a stabilizer and rudder while swimming.

There was an aged man sitting on his porch, smoking, when I came out to take this. He didn't bother me much though, I've started to get used to taking these with people around. After a while he went inside, and another younger guy came out with a little piece of eagle bait yapping at his heels.
How inconspicuous.
So this creepy man peered over his fence at me while I shot a few more pictures, (Think Wilson in Home Improvment, only creepier.) all the while pretending to look at something in the grass whenever I turned around. This got me a little uncomfortable so I went on down the hill, farther into the trees and out of sight. I stopped to take a few more there. While collapsing my tripod, I heard footsteps on the street nearby. It was the same man, suspenders and all. Now thoroughly agitated, I grabbed my gear and trotted on back to the house.
In conclusion--strange people I don't know tend to make me nervous. So I do apologize if you're really a normal sweet person...but if your comments make me uncomfortable you will be blocked.
