Revisited Angkor Wat to check it in all it's sunrise glory. A few tips for this: Bring a wide angle lens and be there before before 5:30! The place was already filled with people by the time we got there. I think we left the hotel around 5:15 then so we were a bit late already. Just got lucky that I was able to squeeze in a few shots without much people in the way. Of course, the visit wouldn't have been complete without us taking photos in the main walkway. Hahaha!

Had lunch in Il Forno in the Pub Street area. Highly recommended for their pizzas and pastas! The rest of the day was spent on a random trip to a nearby fishing village. Awesome time on a boat if not for those kids with the snakes. :|

Made a bratwurst and sweet potato chili a few years back that I felt was pretty good. I decided to take it a bit higher and add a few more ingredients to it, most notably an equal amount of ground beef as well as some hot sausage. There’s also celery and fennel added as well as some tomato paste and apple cider. This is also for a larger amount of chili than the initial recipe yields so most ingredients are doubled or substantially increased. The increased yield is also why I added tomato paste to he recipe, even though the amount of diced tomatoes is doubled I felt more tomato flavor than two cans of diced tomatoes was going to be needed for this amount of substance.

15-30 g. Bacon Grease (optional)

If you’re using ground beef that is less than 85.15 then you probably won’t need any extra grease. I used 85/15 here so I added the bacon grease just in case.

565 g. 85/15 Ground Beef

500 g.. Pork Sausage

225 g. Hot Pork Sausage

450 g. Sweet Potato (peeled & cubed)

225 g.. Red Onion (diced)

I thought about using regular potato here but the cook time for chili is so long that cubed white or yellow potatoes would likely just break up. Plus the orange sweet potatoes and the purple-red onions, and the green peppers are typical Halloween/October colors.

* Brown and break-up ground beef and sausage

* Drain off any excess grease

* Add potato and onion, cover and simmer for about 15 minutes

825 g.. Diced Tomatoes

340 g.. Green Pepper (diced)

115 g. Celery (diced)

55 g. Fennel (diced)

55 g. Jalapeno Pepper (diced)

100 g. Apple (peeled & diced)

2 cans Dark Kidney Beans (drained & rinsed)

170 g.. Tomato Paste

20 g.. Chili Powder

3 g. Dry Cilantro

10 g. Cumin

2 g. Cinnamon

1.5 g. Cayenne Pepper

Salt

Pepper

* Add above ingredients to meat and mix well, cover, and stew on low for about an hour, stirring occasionally

120 ml.. Apple Cider

340 -450 ml. Beef Broth

* Add cider and beef broth and allow to stew on low, uncovered or partially covered, for about 60 minutes

Green Onions

Sour Cream

Shredded Extra Sharp Cheddar

Hot Sauce of choice

Crackers, Chips, Croutons, or Bread

* Top as desired.

You’re going to need the big pot for this one.

Before you get judgemental, this clearly isn’t just slop thrown together since everything is not only measured but re-measured and converted to the metric system and ‘yes’ I do have a mother who cooked enough when I was a child for me to know what normal chili is. A lot of people will turn up their nose at this but people have been droned into misguidance. ‘Chili’ is merely a ‘stew.’ Potatoes are quite common in stews, AND no additional thickeners like flour or cornstarch should be needed because of the starch in the potatoes. As for the cinnamon, I mean.... It goes good with the apples which go good with the fennel which goes good with the celery which is more common in chili than you might think as it forms a good trinity with onion and bell peppers. Plus they’re all kinda fall flavors and colors that go good with sausage and peppers and onions. You might not like the beans being added but I’m planning on doing some Five Way Chili with the leftovers so I decided to save myself a step... and I like beans in chili. So eat a fart, old man, and go somewhere else to enjoy your 'authentic' chili without beans.

#010/365. Monday, 1/10/2011.

Started the spring semester off with a little radioactive decay kinetics. I like using chalkboards better than whiteboards. It's easier to brush chalk off my clothes, faces, and hands than to deal with that ink.

I'm excited about getting to know the new students. The schedule is a little insane: 20 students at 11:00, 40 students at 12:15, then 14 more at 1:30. No break for lunch, which I'm thinking may be just what I need. No more overeating in the all-you-can-eat school cafeteria. Another good thing is that all of my classes are one floor down from our secretary's candy jar, which has always been hard to resist. Who knows, maybe I'll shed a few pounds between now and May.

Revelation 6:15-17 (ANIV)

15 Then the kings of the earth, the princes, the generals, the rich, the mighty, and every slave and every free man hid in caves and among the rocks of the mountains. 16 They called to the mountains and the rocks, "Fall on us and hide us from the face of him who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb! 17 For the great day of their wrath has come, and who can stand?"

DRAWING NOTES:

TIME OF DAY:

Not specified in the account.

LIGHTING NOTES:

The main source of yellow light comes from torches in the two caves behind the figures.

A subtle, secondary source of light is unseen in the foreground, which is bathing the figures in a pale blue glow. I selected that colour as it provides a contrast to the warm yellow glow of the torch light coming from the caves.

Note: in the previous scene (Revelation 6:12-14, the normal sources of light in our world (the sun, moon and stars) have been darkened/removed, so obviously they can’t be sources of natural light in this, later scene.

CHARACTERS PRESENT:

A variety of people: a king, generals, a rich man, various women - see below for comments.

RESEARCH/ADDITIONAL NOTES:

Although verse 16 gives the impression that the people were fearful of God (”hide us from the face of him who sits on the throne...”) I decided to illustrate them in this scene with rebellious, angry, resentful expressions, since all that has come before (the plagues and judgements of God against the people of earth) has not produced an attitude of remorse and repentance in the people of the world.

I wanted to illustrate all the people types mentioned in verse 15. The list in this verse seems to run from the most powerful and influential (kings, princes, generals) to the weakest and/or least influential (slave and free men). I expect that is deliberate, since that single sentence includes all the types of people we can imagine. I wanted to represent all nations and people types in this picture, so have men, women, young and older people, people of differing nationalities, etc.

The king can be seen on the right of the scene, wearing opulent red robes, a crown, gold and jewels. He is raising and shaking his fist against God in my scene: rebellious to the end.

The “generals” from verse 15 are represented by several characters in my picture. The man on the left was inspired from a photograph I found on the internet of a Sikh general from the Second World War (I think). Behind him is a Royal Air Force (RAF) Air Marshall.

On the right of this scene, by the king, is a far eastern general. I found a photograph on the internet that was helpful in designing this character. You might think I have exaggerated all those medals across his tunic, and even running down his trouser leg, but I can assure you that this is taken straight from a photograph of actual “generals”! I must admit I laughed when I saw all those medals - and so had to include that in my scene.

The “rich” from verse 15 are represented by the man on the right of the scene, with a cigar in his mouth, expensive blue suit (complete with diamonds as buttons!) and a handful of US Dollar notes in his hand. No doubt he mistakenly believes that his wealth will save him on God’s Judgement Day.

I have drawn several women in this scene. The first to note is the rather sour looking woman in the left foreground. She might be an actress or member of some royal family, or else some “famous” person. She is bedecked with a crown, huge jewellery and is drinking the finest champagne.

Another woman to note is the one on the right, behind the king. We can’t see much of her, but she is based on a young 1920's socialite, complete with pearls in her hair and a bright blue feather gown.

I represented younger females in my scene in the figure of the women in leather trousers, a pink top, long hair and arm raised in an angry expression of defiance towards the heavens.

Reflecting on what many, many people consider important in life: medals, honours, fame, beauty, money, etc, I am amazed that so many people in the world chase after these things; devoting their lives in pursuit of these things, which will do them good at all on Judgement Day. The Bible is very clear that pursuing such temporary things will do no-one any good, since admission to, or exclusion from the presence of God is not achieved by fame, wealth, beauty, or anything else. Our eternal lives can only be secured by repenting of our wrong doing (sins) and accepting Jesus the Christ as our Saviour and Lord.

I like the commentary below, and can not improve upon the sentiment included, so I’ll quote it here...

(”15-17) And the kings . . .—Translate, And the kings of the earth, and the magnates, and the commanders of hosts, and the wealthy, and the strong, and every man, bond and free, hid themselves (going) into the caves and into the rocks of the mountains; and say to the mountains and to the rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of Him that sitteth upon the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: for the day, the great (day) of His wrath came (or, is come); and who is able to stand? In the list of the great ones here we may notice the descending order—kings, magnates or statesmen, generals, rich men, strong men, bond and free men. The terror strikes into every class: monarchs and their advisers, the statesmen and diplomatists, the commanders of troops, the merchant princes, the men of ability, as well as the obscurer orders of society. Neither royalty, nor rank, nor force of arms, nor opulence, nor talent, nor strength, either of intellect or frame, avail in that crisis; neither does insignificance escape in that day when God brings to light the hidden things. The tests of God are spiritual, as the weapons of God’s war are not carnal. Men who have relied upon wealth, rank, or power, have prepared themselves against one form of trial, but find themselves unarmed in the day of spiritual testing. Like Macbeth, they are unable to fight with the unexpected shape which haunts them. They would rather meet the bodily foe, “who would dare them to the desert with a sword.”

Thus in the final day of judgment the revealing of the spiritual order of all life will confound men whose minds have been blinded by their entire absorption in world-splendours and world-powers. Nor is it merely the unveiling of the forgotten spiritual order which will confound them. The advent is of a Person. It is more than the manifestation of the kingdom of Him who all this while had been King on His throne, and whom they had forgotten—it is the revealing of God’s Son from heaven. It is not without significance that He is described as the Lamb. In that day of His wrath, it is not as a Judge who has laid aside the tokens of His humiliation and suffering: it is as the Lamb. He whom they now shrink from is He who came meek as a lamb, gentle, pure, and suffering on their behalf. He whom they now behold with dismay is He whom they treated with neglect, and whose love they spurned.”

nop, it's not a typo. "Lok" is the name of our lovely guide-porter.

Lok is 29 years old, father to a 4 year old boy and a 4 month old girl. He studied economics in the University in Kathmandu, and therefore possesses a good command of English. After graduation, he decided to return to the mountains, where he belongs, and trained to become a guide on the annapurna range.

Lok started as a porter at the age of 15, then at 22, he earned the license to become a guide (the license is to be renew every 2 years). In these 14 years, he had circuited the annapurna over 50 times, fostered many "useful" relationships in the mountains, and is therefore able to get the best rooms with the best view for us :)

Lok is genuine in his appreciation and admiration of the nature. He upholds traditional family values, and is not shy to give me a lecture of the importance of cultivating the relationship between husband and wife.

Being the clumsiest person in the team, I was always far behind Ange and Penny on the trek. Lok would faithfully walk beside or behind me all the time, though walking slower than usual for him is tougher because he had to bear the weight longer.

I felt so blessed to have Lok to be my guide and porter. If you need someone to guide you through the Annapurnas, get Lok: lokgrg006@yahoo.com

He checks emails may be once a week or two weeks, if he's on a job, he won't have access for at least 3 weeks. So be patient!

Do you remember 17 feelings? By Natalea? well , She Was my favorite photographer when i Was 15 ,then we become friends and Now , i took them wedding pictures!! It Was amazing , and She Was taken polaroids pictures of Her wedding! Soon some image here :)

Their efforts were successful, and on January 21, 1976, Saint Teresa’s hand was finally restored to the Carmelite convent in Ronda. )

a convent for the nuns and priests of the Discalced Carmelites of Ronda. Previously they resided in the Santa Cecilia church.

The term “Discalced Carmelites” refers to a branch of the Carmelite Order within the Catholic Church, known for their reform movement initiated by Saint Teresa of Avila and Saint John of the Cross in the 16th century. “Discalced” literally means “without shoes,” symbolizing their commitment to a life of poverty, simplicity, and strict adherence to the contemplative traditions of the order. This reform emphasized a return to the original spirit of the Carmelite hermits, focusing on prayer, community life, and austerity.

The convent attached to the church was originally home to the Order of Mercedarios, and in the early 17th century was one of the richest convents the order occupied in Spain. Many wonderful paintings were commissioned by the order, including a set of twelve reliefs from Sevilla depicting the life of San Pedro Nolasco. Sadly only one of these remains, the rest having been destroyed by the Carmelite Order when they took possession of the convent.

Had lunch in Il Forno in the Pub Street area. Highly recommended for their pizzas and pastas! The rest of the day was spent on a random trip to a nearby fishing village. Awesome time on a boat if not for those kids with the snakes. :|

Revisited Angkor Wat to check it in all it's sunrise glory. A few tips for this: Bring a wide angle lens and be there before before 5:30! Rory Elizabeth is wearing a full styling wig. The cap is crocheted from a thin worsted yarn (Berroco Ultra Alpaca) in the back loops only for the entire cap. The hair strands are a laceweight yarn blend of kid mohair and linen.

I hooked strands in every loop around the circumference of the cap, then hooked strands in every other stitch all over the cap. After looking it over, I added some yarn strands to the center back, to create a nice looking part if she want to wear her hair in braids or ponytails.

There is a center part, from forehead to crown, made by chaining 15, then hooking strands into both sides of the chain. This was stitched down to the wig cap after the other strands were added.

The cap is stitched to the head all around the cap, and then from the forehead to the back of the neck along the center front to back.

Was doing a little house cleaning when I came across these receipts from our 2006 Walt Disney World Anniversary vacation

The week long grand total came out to be $759.85

This does not include airfare, transfers, hotel or passes - these receipts were strictly from food & souvineers purchases. Granted we did have three expensive meals this trip - first at Marrakesh for $84.15 then Artist Point for $106.87 and finally California Grille for $191.33 (total = $382.35).

Subtract those meals and you're left with $377.50 for bottled water, Dole Whips, snacks, counter service, shirts and waht not. Not too bad really. Aside from the three meals listed most of the receipts were in the $20 - $30 range with Whispering Canyon and Prime Time Cafe being the major exceptions.

A lot of money yes, but worth every penny if you ask me.
